I focused on expressing the powerful themes of heritage, conflict, and memory through visual symbolism. Instead of using literal images from the play, I selected representations that capture the emotional and cultural weight behind the story. I included an antique piano to symbolize the family’s legacy. An image of southern fields reflect the family’s painful history with slavery and land ownership. The central conflict between Boy Willie and Berniece is shown through the image of separated siblings and a raised fist, symbolizing their opposite views on legacy. This process allowed me to be creative and think more deeply about how history, memory, and identity are shown in the play.
