In my book, Meilin meets a man named Finn, who was one of the best warriors in their home, Erdas. Finn meets Meilin again, right as she's about to leave. After taking her inside, he puts her in a room with objects all around it. Her spirit animal, Jhi is with them. Meilin needs to make a better connection with Jhi, since her connections with Jhi are very poor. After playing an erhu, Jhi shows Meilin that leaving to Zhong will be smarter, but not wiser. And if she stays, she has more posibilites. Jhi and Finn show how Meilin leaving for Zhong is not the wisest idea.

Simile: A simile is a figure of speech that compares two separate concepts through the use of a clear connecting word such as “like” or “as.” Examples of simile are phrases such as “He was wily as a fox,” or “I slept like a log.” Metaphor: A metaphor is like a simile, but without connecting words. It simply posits that two separate things are the same. For example, “He was a wily fox,” or “She cried a river of tears.” Implied metaphor: Metaphor takes a few different forms. Sometimes the object of comparison is purely implied rather than directly referenced, such as in the phrase, “He barked commands at the team,” which implies comparison to a dog. Personification: Personification projects human qualities onto inanimate objects, or perhaps animals or natural elements. “The wind howled,” “The words leapt off the page,” and “Time marches on” are all examples of personification.

After 2 months, and almost finished 4 of the 8 books, I'd say I enjoy the series. It's interesting, simple but complex and has good character development in the story. The main characters are well-planned, and the villians are also well made, too. There's also a conflict on who is bad and if the main group is actually villians. Overall, I'd recommend this to anyone if they need a quick read, since most of the books are 180-190 pages.

In the final fight scene, which takes place in the artic, Rollan meets back up with his mother, and she wants him to abandon his friends and go away with him to have a family, after he rejects, the Bile (A diease curing potion) turns his mother into "the Devourer's Puppet," in which she attacks him, and after they burn down the village, they loose their talisman they've been trying to get. This shows how his mother in this scene distracted him long enough for the talisman to fall into the ocean and make him loose it. It also shows how desperate Rollan can be to have a real family with someone. Even though at the end he calls his group his family.

There's really only one conflict in the story, the ownership of the talismans, (Basically, they're objects from the spirit animals that can give you power). In which the good guys, (Greencloaks), must stop the Conquerors from getting them and creating chaos on Earth. The Greencloaks, from the end of book 4, have 2 talismans, and the conquerors have 2 as well. But the main conflict in this story is how the talismans are in the right hands and how the talismans are used.

In my book, the author sets a clear win for the enemy because in order to make more books in the future, the enemy AND the main characters cannot be invinciable. They have to be able to loose some battles. Currently, they are equal. Since the main characters in the book I just read lost, it makes it fear for the both of them, leaving room for improvement with the characters, so the books can still be intreseting in the sequels.

When Rollan admits this, everyone has some suspicions of each other. Abeke, another character who previously worked with the conquerors thinking they were the Greencloaks, was in question if they're actually working with the Greencloaks or they're a mole.

In my book, there's no real POV, but there's a bit of 3rd person limited shared between characters. One moment it's one character and another it's the next. So there's no real POV. This makes the book interesting because it shows how the characters feel at certain moments in the story. Whether it be emotional or neutral, they can be seen between the 4 main characters.
