"The good-to-great leaders never wanted to become larger-than-life heroes. They never aspired to be put on a a pedestal or become unreachable icons. They were seemingly ordinary people quietly producing extraordinary results."

As a leader, this quote can be seen as a form of guidance. As the quote suggests, some of the greatest leaders have come from just regular people trying to achieve good results. This may entice leaders to go for a more holacratic approach to leadership. However, there's also the chance that leaders were to focus on the extraordinary results and make their employees work harder.

First leadership theory that comes to mind is situational leadership. Situational leadership is a model made by Hersey and Blanchard (1969) and means adapting management style depending on the situation you are in.

This could also tie nicely into Goleman's six leadership styles, namely Authoritative, Coaching, Affiliative, Democratic, Pacesetting and Commanding. These styles are all useful to some extent, but some may be classified as better in certain scenarios. For example, in a crisis, a commanding leadership style might be better.

When looking at a leader who truly inspired me, I look at Sean Murray, the managing director of Hello Games. While there was a lot of controversy around him in 2016, he has really set a prime example for game development and leadership within the gaming industry.

Back in 2016, their studio released a highly anticipated title, which had almost none of the features promised. They received an insane amount of negative feedback and criticism. What Sean did next, was to adopt a commanding leadership style and take his entire team of employees offline. They even moved offices so people wouldn't attempt to harass them in person, showing that he truly cared about his employees and their safety.

After about a year of them working on the game, the community started receiving updates on the game, coming up with all the promised features. All of this effort made by him, has got him and his team many awards within the industry since.
