There were many groups of oppressed people, like the plebeians, women, and slaves. Christianity accepted all people and created a welcoming community that made everyone feel like a quality individual, a new experience due to the cruel social hierarchy in place at the time. On the other hand, Roman gods were associated with royalty and the top of the social pyramid. Christianity provided a place for plebeians, the majority, to join a family of sorts- all were encouraged to become Christian. Christianity conveyed a sense of human worth both by the story of jesus and his simplicity, and by his achivements and recognition.  The Christian message promised immortality, a future life, free of sickness and disease. This appealed to people because these are things that people yearned for, and the possibility for a "human to be related to something that is beyond the powers of this world " attracted many people. Also, one was not forced to worship the god, when worshiped good things would happen, but if you didnt, there would be no negative effect.
