A main reason Christianity was able to spread was because of the social climate in Rome. There were many groups of oppressed people, like the plebeians, women, and slaves. Christianity accepted all people and created a welcoming community that made everyone feel like a quality individual, a new experience due to the cruel social hierarchy in place at the time. On the other hand, Roman gods were associated with royalty and the top of the social pyramid. Christianity provided a place for plebeians, the majority, to join a family of sorts- all were encouraged to become Christian. As such, this religion was especially appealing to people who were at the bottom of Roman society, as it provided them a way to gain the acceptance Roman society would never allow.

"Rome is a very strict hierarchical system, in which the emperor is at the top, all the way up and then all the blessings in the world that come to people come down from above. If you're at the bottom of that social pyramid, very few things are coming down to you."

This direct quotation from the text explains the uneven government in Rome. This is a reason for people to convert to christianity because the people in the lower social classes had minimal to none political power. Christianity was a more accepting religion that gave people more opportunity to be heard in the community.

Christianity spread in Rome because of the appeal of the Religion. Christianity included all social groups, including slaves, women , men, and treatedt hem all the same with respect and dignity. Christianity conveyed a sense of human worth both by the story of jesus and his simplicity, and by his achivements and recognition. The Christian message promised immortality, a future life, free of sickness and disease. This appealed to people because these are things that people yearned for, and the possibility for a "human to be related to something that is beyond the powers of this world " attracted many people. Also, one was not forced to worship the god, when worshiped good things would happen, but if you didnt, there would be no negative effect. This created an open community that provided a lot of room for forgiveness, which made Christianity more appealing especially in Rome since many roman gods were strict and didnt
