Jethro Woods created the iron plow. However John Deer improved the iron plow by making it a steel plow more durable. A horse would be able to pull the steel plow more quickly than an ox.

Interchangeable Parts 1796

Eli Whitney created Interchangeable Parts in 1796 ¨to speed up creating guns by having machines manufacture each part. All machine-made parts would be alike for example, one trigger would be identical to each other.¨ He started producing the Interchangeable Parts in 1798.

Spinning Jenny 1764

Lowell Girls 1840

In 1840 Lowell Girls became a thing, they moved from farms to Mill towns to work in factories. They got paid low wages to send back home to families. ¨They made an important economic contribution to American society by providing labor for the Industrial Revolution.¨

Cholera Killing Thousands 1920s

Around the 1920s Cholera started to kill people in the new cities due to the untreated sewage, garbage seeping into wells, streets being filthy, the contaminated water, and that the cities had no sewers.

Daily Life In The 1800s

Daily life in the 1800s was very different then today, starting off men had 12 hour days for 6 days a week, Lowell Girls lived in boarding houses, and to add onto all of it poor woman had to go out and work while wealthy families woman stayed home.

The Mechanical Reaper 1847

¨In 1847, Cyrus McCormick opened a factory in Chicago that produced mechanical reapers. The reaper was a horse-drawn machine that cut and gathered wheat and other grains McCormick´s reaper could do the work of five people using hand tools.¨ This helps everybody because instead of using five people you only need one. (as you see in the picture)

Cotton Gin 1793

In 1793 Eli Whitney wanted to fix a planters problem, so he decided to build a machine to clean cotton. ¨In only 10 days Whitney came up with a model, his cotton gin had two rollers with the thin wire teeth. The machine led to a dramatic expansion of plantation agriculture across the south.¨

Samuel Slater visited Moses Brown, a quaker capitalist who had a mill in Pawtucket RI, The mill wasn't doing well so Slater built in 1973, Pawtucket RI, the first successful textile mill in the USA that used power has a energy source.

Child Labor 1800s

Back in the 1800s they used child labor for fitting into small spaces around large machines to change spindles, but as you can see in the picture some children got harmed or died from the process, this was a very controversial thing.
