Question: Would it be better if kids now had to entertain themselves the way Lou, Oz, and Diamond did without any electricity, or would it be better if kids spent their time like they do now: on electronics?

Answer: It would definitely be better for kids to entertain themselves like Lou, Oz, and Diamond did. It would make kids get up and stop playing video games and get exercise. Nowadays kids don't get enough exercise because of electronics and such, so it would be great if they could entertain themselves outside in nature.

Elizabeth

When Diamond came in from outside for dinner, he had an Asafetida around his neck to ward off sickness. This was a root that Louisa eventually took off his neck and through outside because of the stench. An Asafetida is a dried latex from the tap root which is a perennial herb. This plant is most commonly native to Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan, and India. Some common names for it are devil's dung, food of the gods, hing, and narthex. The medical uses for this root are for cholesterol and digestion. It lowers cholesterol and reduces gas. Even though it is said to do good rather than evil, some sides effects are that it can cause nauseating and vomiting.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asafoetida

http://www.anniesremedy.com/herb_detail415.php

Beth

Task 4: Create a question involving a figurative language device from chapter 21, and then have Elizabeth answer it.

Question: On page 167, it says that " She(Lou) broke out into a smile so wide it threatened to block the sun." What figurative language device is this and how did it affect your perception of how Lou felt about decieving Billy?

Answer: The figurative language device is a metaphor, or it could be taken more as an idiom because a smile cannot literally block the sun. As we know, Lou later feels guilty about tricking Billy but before that, she's proud of her prank. She was retallilating, and in her mind this justifies her action but when she later finds out about how Billy is treated at home, she starts to feel some empathy towards her peer.

Beth

Question: Would you rather have an unrealistic but optimistic way of thinking, or a more realistic but pessimistic way of thinking?

Answer: I would rather have an unrealistic and optimistic way of thinking because even though what you hope to happen might not happen, you still are happy most of the time and won't be depressed about everything.

Elizabeth
