At first polio was a horrible and extremely fatal disease to whoever contracted it would get first just a mild headache and then it would slowly move to a stiff back, fevers and sometimes twitching muscles, then in some cases it moves to muscle paralysis and then could be fatal because someone might get infected in the brain and might die. Because of the fact that it spread through feces and through touch it is very contagious and even more fatal. Luckily a cure was invented in the 1950’s there was a vaccine invented to prevent others from getting it.

What happened to smallpox and how did it impact health?

Smallpox was a horrible disease that causes blisters to appear on the skin and liquid is inside of it, eventually it kills the person who has it. Because you could pop the pimples it is easily contagious so if you got the liquid from the pores of an infected person you too were likely to get it too.Thankfully the English scientist, Edward Jenner made the first vaccine ever and it was for smallpox. It was made in 1796. He learned that farmers who caught the mild disease cowpox did not get smallpox so he infected a boy with cowpox and surprisingly the boy did not get smallpox. Because of this invention smallpox was eradicated within 200 years.

How would the microbiological environment differ without vaccines?

One way the microbiological environment would differ without vaccines is because without vaccines. Without vaccines many more people would have gotten the virus and therefore making it even more fatal to people. Without it there would be no cures to many dangerous diseases such as smallpox and measles. There would be no way to stop it so people would very likely die and it would probably be even worse than the black plague because that didn't have a cure eiter, it was fatal, and it was highly contagious.
