Working on a case by case basis with each student and knowing their background with technology is so helpful when working with tech in a classroom. Students who feel confident and interested in technology will learn much better with it.

When students are following the ISTE standards, it is a lot easier for those same students to develop skills and characteristics that are outlined in the Profile of the SC graduate, which leads to the closing of the Digital Use Divide. For example, when students review the ISTE standards and know about their digital footprint and what that means, in terms of skills and characteristics, they will already have those because of following the standards. Both the standards and the profile of a graduate go hand in hand in making well rounded students in terms of technological use.

The ISTE Standards can be used to develop the Skills and Characteristics outlined in the Profile of the SC Graduate and help close the digital divide by giving teachers higher standards that enables them to do so much more for their students learning and creativity, and the fact that the standards aren't just for technology teachers helps reach a bigger multitude of students and help close that digital use divide. The standards also promote teachers to use technology actively instead of passively.

I believe that the standards for students could really aid in closing the digital use divide. Technology can be used to improve communication between peers and teachers and expand the ways students are able to demonstrate what they have learned as well as gain access to resources that can be beneficial to their learning such as individual studying, or personalized practiced. Students are able to take charge over their learning which empowers them to pursue their strengths

Two connections I made about the ISTE standards. One was about using them to ease learning for students. I think the ultimate goal of an educator more than just imparting knowledge to students is to make students want to learn, to seek knowledge for themselves. Technology, can to a point, help in this goal.

Second is about how the larger a class is, the more difficult it would be for an educator to meet all the needs of the students. Some would inevitably slip through the cracks. It is a sad reality of the model of the education that while teachers may try their best to meet the needs of all students, some are simply unpassionate about learning and attempting to cater to them can lead to the neglect of the exceptional. Technology to some level can help these stragglers, closing the digital use divide by providing equal opportunities for all students.

The standards are designed to have students actively engaging in technology. They have students use tech to answer their own questions instead of having information fed to them, collaborate with others and the greater world regardless of location, and use technology in creative ways that are otherwise inaccessible or difficult. This can help close the digital use gap by acting as a framework for teachers and a goal, where lessons incorporating technology are designed to teach or utilize one or more of the standards, while the actual content of the lesson can be adjusted for the class.

If students are able to have a voice in what they are learning then they are more likely to be actively engaging in technology because they find it interesting.
