I think that the townspeople still support the Finches despite agreeing with the guilty verdict because they are very set in their ways. The people of Maycomb have respected the Finches and Atticus specifically for a long time, and they don't necessarily believe that they should stop respecting them for Atticus' position in the case. It suggests that people in Maycomb make decisions more based on their existing biases rather than current events & facts, and that they think of justice as only relating to the one person who is in a trial rather than as justice for a whole race of people or community.

I think that there are valid reasons to hate someone, like if they've done something like Hitler. Also, Hitler is a political figure and Scout doesn't hate him on a personal level, but for his awful actions. However, I also believe that under normal circumstances, it isn't okay to hate a person, but rather to hate their actions, and I believe that people can change and redeem themselves.
