We express ourselves through language.
Speaking or writing about a subject is complex cognitive exercise. In doing so we are deepening our knowledge on this subject, so these two types of activity used as learning strategies improve student outcomes.
From a small age, already of school age, I associate the quality of the thought with the number of words that each individual dominates, thus, if we know a diversified range of words we improve the quality of our thought and consequently, the quality of the way we communicate with the others .
We all know that in class, students write in a mechanical way when they take notes or when they transcribe the information contained in the picture.

Writing is a slower process than speaking, so when we as teachers/learners produce written information, it tends to be more condensed (in content) but also more reflected upon, which means, up to a certain extent, it is more elaborate and somehow, leaving a deeper imprint in our brains, which in the end, could be summarized as a meaningful learning.
If we are then, capable of providing a variety of tasks - not only note taking to revisit ideas- that allow the students to adapt to different registers and audiences, we are helping them enrich their vocabulary and their communication strategies, improving the outcome of the learning sequence.

Writing is becoming more boring for students anymore. They don’t want to write and it makes harder to express themselves when they have to write something. I like to make them observe and write or draw what is happening in lesson process by using worksheets. So with writing I can see what they learn and what they didn’t.
