Overfishing in Lingayen Gulf:
What may be the biggest threat of the reefs in the Lingayen Gulf are the common fishers and the 26 commercial fishing companies who engage in mostly unregulated, cutthroat fishing. Thus, the reefs have been overexploited not only from overfishing itself, but also the methods used to capture fish. Common methods to capture fish in the Lingayen Gulf include blasting, and cyanide. However, commercial fishers prefer trawling to capture fish because the large yields produced. Unfortunately for the reef system in the Lingayen Gulf, many fishing methods such as blasting, cyanide, and trawling are non-discriminatory; in other words, blasting, cyanide, and trawling affect all reef life and not just the particular fish that fishers are targeting (Ochavillo, et al. 1989).

Greener Ideal reported on the growing use of automated waste collection, which has been supporting waste management, pollution and traffic issues. Essentially, the process would see an underground network of tubes linking homes and designated outlets to a waste collection center. People would have a bin for general waste, organic waste, and paper waste, and would sort their rubbish and recycling as is standard today. When the bins reach a certain limit, the bottom would open to “flush” the waste out through vacuum tubes. No more putting the bins out.
