This book was written by Emily Bronte, but she used the name "Ellis Bell" to pretend to be a man, as this gave them the possibility to write more freely without social pressure. By this time women did not have many rights and their literature was not important. Women were only supposed to serve men, be in the house, take care of the children and their husband, so literature and most jobs were only for men. Because of this, the feminist movement has been in charge of giving visibility to women who did works in the past and were hidden and discriminated because they were women. Nowadays, this has changed and women have many rights, they no longer have to hide and can dedicate themselves to whatever they like.

I chose this painting by the italian artist Romina Bassu because it reminds me of lots of feelings in relation to the feminist theory. First, as the theory explains it was developed during a time of invisibilization of women in a way men were the ones in charge of art expression which is clearly portrayed by the artist in the painting. Second, the role of women was minimized and I believe the action of the men painting a woman represents how women were seen as an extension of men denying women's nature and value.

It seems to me that it is a perfect example to expose the power dynamics, the role of women, and the restrictions imposed by the society at that time.

First, there is the economic dependence on women, where they are highlighted for their ability to marry well and ensure an economically beneficial marriage. All this was because marriage was seen as the only form of social and financial security for women of the time. Likewise, the great limitations imposed on women, associated with social expectations and gender norms, restrict freedom and development.

As well as Miss Elizabeth Bennet stands out as a female empowerment character who defies traditional gender expectations of her by being independent, resourceful, and opinionated. Her initial rejection of Mr. Collins' marriage proposal and her willingness to marry for love, not just convenience, underscore her rebellious character within the context of the time.

Finally, we cannot leave aside the criticism of the double standard that allowed men certain behaviors and granted them a greater degree of freedom than women.

I chose a song called “The man” by Taylor Swift and its video, that even thoug is from the current period, can easily pictures some elements from the feminist approach:
-Gender roles: it shows how the role of women is expected to be passive in society, they are not supposed to have a leading role, and the main character of success is meant to be always a man.
-Women as property: women, as in the Victorian era, are portrayed as an object along with money, they are minimized to object of men's consumption and their acquisition power.
-Social double standards: it is portrayed how a man, only because of his privileged masculine position, is considered successful, powerful and praised for aspects for which women would be socially condemned, an example mentioned is sexual autonomy (although it is pictured from an objectified position perspective).
-Power Dynamics: This song describes how a man can have better opportunities and credit in the system due to his privileged position. On the on the other hand, a woman that has higer qualifications to access the same opportunities would not have the same credit and access.

Finally, the phrase "If I was a man
Then I'd be the man" represents how even women that have qualifications, social values, and the social obligation to go the extra mile, they barely have social credit and approval. It proposes how the same qualities in a man would make him be seen as a successful and powerfull figure to be proud of and deserving all the credit.

"The Help" is a film that reminds me Victorian Era; although this is not set in this era, it reflects the reality experienced by women, especially African American women, since they were part of the workforce and had fewer opportunities and rights due to their skin color. Likewise, it reflects the lifestyle of wealthy women in society where their duty was to be a loyal, submissive, and respected wife. Likewise, one of their greatest honors was to give birth to children to form a family that would be admired by the public eye.

I’ve chosen this picture from 1979. This picture is set in the Sandinista Revolution in Nicaragua. I wanted to show this event as part of what the feminist approach claims for. Back in the day, women were deemed as those without a voice. They were never taken into account in decision-making. They had only one job which was staying put at the house, looking after the family, and pleasing their husbands. Women were pigeonholed into the image of passive, manageable, and quiet wives. All those prejudices and stereotypes could not be left unchallenged. In 1979, the women of Nicaragua stood their ground and fought for their rights. The picture known as “La miliciana de Waswalito”, which portrays a woman holding a baby and a weapon, crossed boundaries by showing that women can be mothers and warriors and more. This revolution proved that women are perfectly able to sort out a “man’s do”, get out of the household, be considered for important decisions, and fight for their rights. Women being part of the military was something inconceivable in those times, but they proved them wrong.

To me this painting shows the submission of women, the lack of autonomy and freedom they have. They must do what the man tells her because she has no will, and even her voice is silenced so she cannot express her feelings or desires.

I chose this painting because it represents very well how women were treated in Victorian literature. In addition, there are still women in these times who are treated this way by their husbands or society. The woman is not a puppet or a doll and they should remove her strings and let her be free.

The film "Bad Moms" mentioned different interesting points. For example, gender roles, referring to the Social pressure on mothers to be perfect in all aspects, which is a manifestation of traditional gender roles. The protagonists challenged these roles and expectations.

I chose this song, because although feminism is not about seeking the same interests as men, and it is about being able to have equal conditions; at that time, women who wrote poems or stories posed as men in order to be heard. In this song the author expresses that if she were a man she could do many things naturally. In many cases we see ourselves in the same situation, we see that if we were a man we could earn better salaries or we would be taken more into account in our decisions. This song has a very interesting background, the woman who told a story on which the song was based was about how one day she was in a pizzeria with her boyfriend and she didn't eat anything, thinking for the fact that is a woman she had to look thin and pretty, so she wrote a story in which she said that if she were a man she could eat or look however she wanted and wouldn't be judged.

The song challenges gender stereotypes and the idea that a woman needs someone else to complete her. Instead, it emphasizes independence and self-fulfillment. For many women, this song serves as an anthem of self-determination and self-affirmation, promoting the idea that they are the masters of their own lives and happiness. Although it is well known that we still have a long way to go in the fight for women's rights, I would have liked women from other times to be able to freely sing this song and know that they are owners of themselves, their future and their decisions.
