         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Level 1's</strong> are brand new speakers/learners (entering) of the English language. They may be hesitant to speak, go through a "silent period", and comprehend only simple statements, questions, vocabulary and basic conversations. . Recommendations are to provide visuals whenever possible, use of gestures, picture vocabulary, graphic organizers, word banks, role playing, and <strong><em>modified assignments/grading</em></strong>. </div><div><br></div><div><strong>Level 2's </strong>are early intermediate speakers/learners (emerging). They comprehend short conversations/passages on simple topics, express some details, write simple notes and may use repetition, gestures and other nonverbal cues to hold a conversation. Recommendations include oulining, story webs/maps, use of word banks, bold/enlarged key terms/vocabulary, and use of visuals whenever possible. <strong><em>Also,assignment/grading modifications.   </em></strong></div><div><br></div><div><strong>Level 3's </strong>are intermediate speakers/learners. (developing)They understand conversation/speech and can communicate for the most part, comprehend some nuances with repetition/rephrasing, but might have difficulty in saying or writing complex sentences, using correct verb tenses and understanding academic content areas texts. Continued use of visuals, graphic organizers, story webs/maps, and bold key terms/vocabulary is helpful. For these students, <strong><em>some grading modifications may be needed.  </em></strong></div><div><br></div><div><strong>Level 4's </strong>(expanding) and <strong>-5's </strong>(bridging) are advanced. They understand most standard speech and can usually communicate with minimal errors and are able to use most language structures/content vocabulary. These students may need minimal accommodations. </div><div><br><br></div>]]></description>
