         <description><![CDATA[<P>-includes model answers based on the mark scheme</P><P>1) Discuss the features of the delocalised model of benzene. You can include drawings. (5 marks)</P><P>Model Answer:</P><P>-Benzene is a&nbsp;CYCLIC HYDROCARBON&nbsp;with six carbon atoms and six hydrogen atoms</P><P>-The six carbon atoms are arranged in a PLANAR HEXAGONAL RING.</P><P>-The shape around each carbon atom is TRIGONAL PLANAR with BOND ANGLE OF 120 DEGREES.</P><P>-Each carbon atoms has three outer-shell electrons bonded to two carbon atoms and one hydrogen atom. These are called SIGMA BONDS. </P><P>-This leaves a fourth outer-shell electron in the p-orbital to overlap with the other electron in the p-orbital on either side. This creates a system of&nbsp;PI-BONDS that&nbsp;SPREAD over the ring of electron density above and below the ring.</P><P>-The electrons are said to be DELOCALISED.</P><P>-Illustrations:</P>]]></description>
