I decided to do a piece where it tried to show what depression feels like and how it is outwardly shown. I came up with this idea because I have recently this summer been diagnosed with depression and I needed to do something that would help me externalize it. The words that seem "bad" and are what you feel when you are depressed are in red over a purple and blue background. The purple and blue background because depression is kind of like a bruise that never heals, it comes up randomly times and you can still feel it weeks after. The words are trying to explain the feeling themselves, like "can't breathe", "lost" and "shattered". The Jesuit potion over top of the piece is meant to represent the fact that people with depression try to hide what they are feeling and cover it up. Which is what the words over top are for they are the words that people with depression say so that people don't worry about them or find out how evil their mind is to them. That is also represented by the demons. this is to show how the demons still attack and overcome your defensive and it feels like they will never go away.
How did your ideas develop and change as you worked?    
Originally I wanted the top words to be red and the bottom words to be a darker color, but the darker color wouldn't stand out against the dark background so it had to be red words. The demons also weren't there in the beginning but I believe that was something this piece really needed. 
If you could change something about your final artwork, what would that be and why? 
If I could change something it would be how the words on top kind of blend with the words underneath. I would also change how on the right side of the painting the Jesuit bleed the color of the red words. I would either do that for the entirety of the painting or not do that at all.
