         I chose Tanjong Pagar Road as I stay very near there and I am interested to know more about my own place. Secondly it is because Lee Kuan Yew, one of the leaders whom I inspire controlled and took over the constituency. Finally, I love that street as there are so many varieties of shops found there so it is a shopping spree.

         Tanjong is 'cape' and Pagar means 'fence' or enclosed space. It probably refers to the location of PSA gate 3 near Victoria Deck. There were a lot of mangrove swamps in Tanjong Pagar.

         Tanjong Pagar in Malay means 'cape of stakes' a name that reflects its origins as a fishing village situated on a former promontory. It had been surmised that the name was inspired by the presence of kelongs set up along the stretch of coast from the village of Tanjong Malang to what is now Tanjong Pagar. It is possibly a corruption of the earlier name Tanjong Passar, a road which led from South Bridge Road to the fishing village and which appeared in G.D Coleman's  1836 Map of the Town. Now there are many HDB apartments located there and is also  one of the busiest place in Singapore.

             Tanjong Pagar was a very pictursque location. According to the Malay annals, swordfish attacked the villages along the coast in Singapore. Hence Sri Maharaja built banana stems to protect the people from suffering vicious attacks.The original for Tanjong Pagar is Salinter, a fishing village. There was even a Tanjong Pagar Dock Company due to the increasing growth of shipping activities in the 1850s.

               In few years time, I wish there will be many tall skyscrapers, full of office buildings. There may also be tall residential buildings and some historical tourist attractions like a huge museum as I came to know that Tanjong Pagar itself has a massive history behind it.
