Ambitious

Quote: "Just tell me where you want to go to school and you’ll go. Just tell me, what it is you want to be—and you’ll be it…Whatever you want to be—Yessir! You just name it, son… and I hand you the world!” (Hansberry 108)

This quote shows that Walter is ambitious because he wants a greater life for his son. He is determined that his son will get the education he needs. Also he is convinced that his son will be successful in whatever career he wants to pursue. Walter is so excited because he has a new found confidence in everything because of what just happened in his family.

Arrogant

Quote: "And you—ain’t you bitter, man? Ain’t you just about had it yet? Don’t you see no stars gleaming that you can’t reach out and grab? … Here I am a giant—surrounded by ants. Ants who can’t even understand what it is the giant is talking about” (Hansberry 85)

This quote explains Walter's arrogance because he sees himself as above everyone else. He is explaining himself as a giant surrounded by ants because he think he is much better than everyone else. He is especially showing his arrogance in this quote because he disagrees with who he's talking to. Instead of discussing the issue, he chooses to belittle someone else.

I sometimes sympathize for Walter and think he means right. Walter has good intentions but sometimes doesn't know how to show it. I sympathize with him because he just wants to do good by his family but doesn't have the tools. Walter wants a job he loves that also makes good money. He'll also take chances to try and make this happen.

This picture relates to Walter. It relates to Walter because in "A Raisin in the Sun" Walter shows a lot of different moods. He is normally agitated and annoyed. He is normally agitated and bored with his job. When he gets the money from Mama, he gets very hopeful very quickly. Then when he gets the new that his money was stolen he falls into gloominess.

There are many similarities between "Fences" and " A Raisin in the Sun". One of the main similarities is there financial status. Both families are living in poverty. Different members of both families have different dreams and others are content with there lives.

Also, both families had to sacrifice different things to stay together as a family. Rose had to sacrifice her dreams. She had hopes and dreams but had to put them aside to keep Troy happy and her family together. Also, the relationships between the family members are up and down.
