Pi has to use what little resources he as on the lifeboat to sustain himself and Richard Parker on this little boat until that happens. He uses a whistle to tame RIchard Parker while pretending that it was all a circus act so he wouldn't be as afraid of Richard Parker as he could have been. Didn't like hurting things, loved people, was a vegetarian (which I'm told is a moral thing to do), and loves his family. Heart of gold. Too bad about that sea turtle thing.

Artha- Literally translated to "meaning" is what gives a Hindu individual purpose.
Moshka- The cycle of life, death and rebirth.
Karma- The belief that certain actions have certain inescapable consequences.
