This is a site developed to support teachers that have attended a session on Shared Reading.

In a nutshell, Shared Reading is the idea that kids can read text that are a bit too hard with the right support.

We do that by reading the text (story, poem, speech, etc...) to them first, allowing them to join in as comfortable, Our first read is all about enjoying the text and understanding.

Then we do repeated readings over a few days. Each time we read together, the students are able to read more and more independently.

Each time we read it we also usually point out something unique about the text - maybe how we can use our voice to stress certain words, maybe the meaning of a unique word or phrase, maybe a pondering about the authors reasons for writing and how what they did to make that happen.

Of course, the text ranges widely in both difficulty and developmental appropriateness, so always read to yourself first.
