1. In this poem from "Out of the Dust," Billie Jo talks about her best friend moving away. Livie's family was headed out west to California.

2. Personification is used when it says, " "where the wind takes a rest sometimes." This means that the wind (and dust) is not as strong out west.

3. The structure of “Losing Livie” includes 8 stanzas with various line lengths and number of lines. In stanza 3, the word “Livie” is isolated on one line and in stanza 4, the word “separately” is isolated. This could represent the conflicting emotions between Livie and Billie Jo.

4. The figurative language & structure contributes to the mood and shows how lonely and upset Billie Jo must be. It emphasizes that Billie Jo's jealousy that Livie gets to leave the dust and hardships behind her.

1. there were a couple of nice days and then a huge dust storm came and it was strong that the dust would have destroyed the house that the lady let them in if there was not a horde of people. they went home later and their house was filled with dust bille started shoveling while dad checked on the anmails which were not in good condition.

2.on page 165 it says" The dust would have broken us completely"this does not mean that they were actually broken they mean their willpower would have been slow and they would be mentally unable to get through the dust storm.

3. Karen Hesse structured the poem lines to give tone and mood by having some very short lines and some long lines.
