Peter made many radical changes in his effort to westernize Russia. Boyars were forced to adopt beliefs and clothing of Western Europe, Russian men were forced to shave their beards, and women were were ordered to attend parties. These altogether turned Russia into a true absolute monarchy. Peter 1 left a great impression for other monarchs to follow him. He expanded Russia, conducted a port, created an army, strengthened economy, and fixed Russia into becoming admired.
