POSITION DESCRIPTION: The person(s) in this position will assist the University of California, Davis Health (UCDH) Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology clinical research team with clinical research trials in Family Planning, General Gynecology, Gynecology Oncology, Urogynecology and Maternal Fetal Medicine research. The position(s) will be located at the Lawrence Ellison Ambulatory Care Center, 4860 Y Street, Suite 2500, Sacramento, CA.

The volunteers(s) will be trained to organize research regulatory files and in some instances, research participants' study charts. The volunteer(s) will also be trained to assist research staff and/or the physician by assisting with research activities.

The volunteer(s) will be trained to assist research study staff with research study back-office management, data entry and preparing for research-related appointments. Duties will include transporting specimen (e.g., blood, tissue) samples from enrolled research participants to either the local lab or clinical research lab and processing samples according to study protocols. The volunteer(s) will also assist with study recruitment, study drug delivery and documentation of research procedures.

Other responsibilities will include helping with photocopying and other clerical activities to assist the study coordinators with the research studies. The department is willing to work with the volunteers’ schedules and negotiate work hours. The position(s) will be volunteer only and letters of recommendation are happily provided for those in good standing at the time of the request.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Must be 18 years or older at the time of registration, follow UC Davis Health Volunteer Services health requirements, and complete a $10 Background Check coordinated by UC Davis Health Volunteer Services. Good command of the English language, ability to follow detailed oral and written instructions, and conduct themselves in a professional manner. Volunteers(s) must be able to successfully interact with a diverse group of people, including office staff, and hospital staff to include research coordinators, nurses and physicians. The volunteer(s) must be able to work independently and provide a minimum of 8 hours of volunteering per week. Volunteer(s) must be in compliance with UCDH’s volunteer health clearance standards (which is outlined on the UCDH Volunteer Services Website). Volunteer(s) must be willing to commit to a one-year research assistantship. Based on standing, volunteers may be able to continue volunteering past one year.

This workshop, How to Navigate the Pre-Health Curriculum, will be held on Friday August 9th from 12:00 - 1:00 pm PDT. The goals of our workshop are to help students identify the courses required for their desired health professional schools and provide them with tips and tools on how to navigate these challenging courses and plan their timeline. We will end the meeting with a Q&A.
