Then she meets Edward...
He is stunningly, inhumanly beautiful and she cannot keep her eyes off him, even though he is obviously an outsider too.
Twilight is the story of Bella and Edward's strange, unearthly romance as Edward's vampire tendencies surface and threaten to split them apart.
For vampire and teenage romance fans this book is an easy read that will keep you gripped until the end.
For those who like a little more substance in their read, this is definitely one to avoid!

Billy is a small, cheeky, likeable character who unfortunately and unjustifiably gets bullied at home and at school.
The thing I liked about his character is that he doesn't let things get him down and knows what he wants and goes and gets it!
It was a gripping read which took me into a time in history when things were so very different but when human nature was so very much the same as now.

The story is told from the perspective of the Paston women.
I have really enjoyed reading this book and discovering insights into another period in history.
It seems that at this time there were constant battles and struggles over land, territory and money.
Even if you had money and power back then it was always uncertain as to how long you would keep it!
The book is well worth a read for students interested in History.

This black and white edition of the book gives quite a detailed overview of the classic story, as Dr Jekyll wrestles with his two personalities, with disastrous consequences.

My parents bought me the rest for my next birthday 😊

These books have always made me feel happy and I dip in to them if I want to cheer myself up, or if I want a light read.

James Herriot was a Scottish vet who settled in Yorkshire, in between the two World Wars.

His books, which began with 'If Only They Could Talk' (published 1970) describe the people he met and the animals he worked with in the small Dales market town of 'Darrowby'.

There are some really funny tales in the books, as well as some that will make you cry, and I thoroughly recommend them to anyone who likes animals or finding out about the past.

There has been a hit TV series devoted to the books on Channel 5 recently. I had never read any graphic novels until earlier this year and now I love them!
The first one I read was The Hound of the Baskervilles, originally by Arthur Conan Doyle, and I thought it was really gripping.

It sets the dark, spooky scene of this classic story brilliantly, with some excellent illustrations.

The good thing about a graphic version of a classic novel is that the amazing pictures and simpler language give you a real overview of the book without you getting too bogged down in the detail.

I enjoyed this story as it was a fun and imaginative way of tackling social issues such as masculinity and mental health. It’s a quick read (can be completed in a day) and is much better than its movie adaptation.

Joe, an insomniac and serial support-group faker, finds himself needing newer and greater methods of relieving the stress that keeps him awake when another faker joins his groups. He meets Tyler Durden, the Modern Messiah.

It also briefly touches on the impact oppression can have on a person’s attitude and mental health.

Maurice follows the eponymous Maurice Hall and the two men he falls in love with throughout his life; Clive Durham and Alec Scudder, as well as the struggles they face due to the nature of society in pre-WW1 England.

I enjoyed this book because it is the pinnacle of Russian drama. It tackles the various relationship dynamics that Tolstoy had viewed in his life, and manages to craft hilariously devious characters, all of which you neither love nor hate.

These collection of stories are the beliefs of the Vikings who often told tales to others during feasts. From the creation to the world and to Ragnarok, the end of the world as believed by the Vikings.
 
I like the short story aspect of this book and I would give it a 10/10.

Why did you like it?
It brings a new perspective to the romance novel that diverges away from the commercialised view of the genre. It is quiet, understated and yet incredibly profound.
For sure, Normal People has been a polarising story, people either love it or hate it - with stylistic choices like the absence of speech marks maybe putting people off (myself included during my first read attempt!), but Rooney constructed a character study that shifted my view of elements of the world and also that I related quite closely too at times. I loved it. (Also the BBC adaptation is so good.)
The plot:
Normal People traces the lives of two contrasting individuals, Marianne and Connell, through secondary school and college.
It is a very real story about navigating the complexities of friendship and relationships, over shadowed by a socio-economic divide, suffering from mental health issues, and a few years of miscommunication.

The three famous Bronte sisters - Charlotte, Emily and Anne, suffered much tragedy in their short lives and had little life experience, due to the remote setting of their home.
They did, however, write beautiful novels, plays and poetry which immortalised the Yorkshire countryside where they lived.
Their novels, such as Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, are all still read admired to this day.
