Repetition allows the listener to focus more on specific parts that the composer wants their audience to grasp onto. The use of repetition also allows the composer to get their message across. The goal is to find a melody that works and repeat it throughout the course of the song. As long as there are variations, repetition can be successful without being bland or unchanging. So that it may be appreciated to it's fullest potential.

Ratliff's argument

Ratliff begins by talking about an annoying car alarm that blared the same tone over and over. This really bothered him that there was no variation in the alarm. It makes sense because of the intention to get the attention of anyone around to hear it. His point was that certain, unchanging tones in music can easily become annoying. I agree with his argument. Repetition should be used in order to get the listeners attention and create a sense of anticipation for the progression that is soon to follow. Repetition in music sets a solid base for the song to progress and work it's way to and from certain melodies.

The rhythm of the guitar, in the beginning, repeats the same tune for a while and sets the groove for the other instruments to join in and play along. He also repeats the name of the song among other short, concise phrases. It is indeed very funky and enjoyable to listen to.

This instrumental song by Polyphia uses repetition in a very interesting and exciting way. It's starts slow to sort of create a sense of anticipation for the rest of the song. The melody in the beginning is used throughout the song in certain parts. Some in the same way and some in a slight variation of the original melody. This song to me would be a great addition to a playlist for working out, studying, or traveling in a car.
