The Dream reverberates down the line - a history of oppression begets a present of oppression. The lack of artists of colour in the historical record reflects 'The Dream' in that there is more value placed on white voices, and more opportunities and exposure given to white artists. White people dominate the discourse both as creators and subjects of art. Until we acknowledge the lack of opportunity of people of colour in all fields, it will be too easy to dismiss their voices as unimportant or attribute the lack of representation up to other - more palatable to The Dream- reasons. To engage in 'The Dream' is to deny the struggle and reality of people of colour.
