         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong><br>The summer festivities in the city have their roots in the commemoration of Málaga's incorporation into the Castilian crown by the Catholic Monarchs on 19 August 1487.</strong></div><div><br><strong>Málaga’s August Fair is a cosmopolitan and international Grand Summer Fair that illustrates the capital's character as the leading tourist area in Europe.</strong></div><div><strong> </strong></div><div><strong>Some of the main events include the inauguration of the fair accompanied by a firework show, the Romería (pilgrimage) where horseback riders, horse-drawn carriages and people on foot accompany the bearer of the fair standard to the Sanctuary of the Virgin of Victoria.</strong></div><div> </div><div>    <strong> CHRISTMAS FIESTAS</strong> </div><div><strong>From the very first days of December, the streets and main squares of Málaga become filled with light and colour.  You can enjoy many activities: cribs, skating rinks, music concerts and much, much more. </strong>                              <strong>                                                           <br>  THE NIGHT OF SAN JUAN</strong> </div><div><br><strong>On the night of 23 June, Midsummer Eve, thousands of Málaga's residents flock to the beaches to celebrate the arrival of summer.          <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Malaga is one of the oldest cities in the world almost 3000 years of history. <br>Malaga was founded by the Phoenicians in 770 B.C. <br><br>Malaga's  harbour has operated continuously since 600 B.C. It became a part of the Roman Empire, but when it fell, the city was under the Islamic rule.<br>In 1487 Malaga was conquered by Christians.<br>In the Renaissance in 1528 the cathedral "La Encarnación de Málaga" was built. <br>The project was finished in 1782 with only one tower. For this reason the cathedral is known as "La Manquita" (one armed).<br><br>In the nineteenth century Malaga was a pioneer of the industrial revolution, becoming the first industrialised city in Spain. This began the ascendancy of Malaga's powerful  bourgeois families, such as the Larios and the Heredia families.  </strong></div><div><strong><br>Now Malaga is an important ecomic and cultural centre.          <description><![CDATA[<div><strong><br>Málaga's climate is extremely moderate in winter with mild&nbsp; temperatures. The summers are tempered by the city's proximity to the sea. Rainfall is low with an average of 469.2 mm. The highest rainfall occurs between November and March; the summer is very dry.&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<br>Málaga enjoys an annual average of 2,901 hours of sunshine.          <description><![CDATA[<div><br></div><div><em>       </em><strong><em>The Alcazaba</em></strong></div><div><br></div><div><strong>This fortress palace, whose name in Arabic means </strong><strong><em>citadel</em></strong><strong>, is one of the city's historical monuments and is much visited because of its history and beauty.The building that dates from the Muslim period (XI century) is located at the foot of the Gibralfaro hill, crowned by the Arab defence works to which the Alcazaba is connected by a walled passage known as the Coracha. </strong></div><div><a href="http://cdn.traveler.es/uploads/images/thumbs/201235/la_alcazaba_de_malaga_7848_1200x799.jpg"><strong><br></strong></a><br></div><div>         <strong><em>Málaga's Port <br></em></strong><br></div><div><strong>The Port of Málaga is an international seaport located on the Costa Del Sol in the  Mediterranean. It is the oldest continuously-operated port in Spain and one of the oldest in the Mediterranean. The world famous gallery Centre Pompidou has come to Malaga. Without doubt the Pompidou art center in Paris is one of the greatest homes of twentieth century art.<br></strong><br></div><div><br>      <strong><em>The Roman Theater</em></strong></div><div><strong>The Roman Theater (El Teatro Romano) is the oldest monument in Málaga City. it is situated in the cultural heart of Málaga , at the foot of the famous Alcazaba fortress. It is one of the only Ancient ruins left in Málaga. It was built under the Emperor Augustus' rule. <br></strong><br></div><div><br></div><div>        <strong><em>The Cathedral<br></em></strong><br></div><div><strong>The Cathedral of Málaga is a </strong><a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renaissance"><em>Renaissance</em></a><strong> church. It is located within the limits defined by a now missing portion of the medieval Moorish walls, the remains of which surround the nearby Alcazaba Castle of Gibralfaro It was constructed between 1528 and 1782, the plans were   drawn by Diego de Siloé; the interior is also in Renaissance style. It is popular known as "La Manquita" (The e-armed) because it only has one tower instead of two.<br></strong><br></div><div><br></div><div>         <strong><em>Gibralfaro Castle<br></em></strong><br></div><div> <strong>This Castle, built in the 14th. Century to house troops and protect the Alcazaba, is today one of the most visited monuments in Málaga. From its walls, visitors get spectacular views of the city and you can visit the Interpretation Centre to discover the site's history<br></strong><br></div><div>      <strong><em>Malaga's Bullfighting Ring<br></em></strong><br></div><div><strong>La Malagueta itself was built in 1874, by the architect Joaquín Rucoba. The first fight took place on 11th June 1876, and the matadors who fought were Rafael Molina, Antonio Carmona, Luque El Gordito, and Manuel Rodriguez. A century later in 1976 the site was declared an Historic Artistic Monument, and in 1981, it was declared an Official Site of Cultural Interest.<br></strong><br></div><div><a href="https://photos.tripomatic.com/photo/600x338nc/612664395a40232133447d33247d3834393838333734.jpg"><br></a><br></div><div>         <strong><em>The Town Hall<br></em></strong><br></div><div><strong>The Neo-Baroque Town Hall is one of Malaga's most important buildings and was built between 1912 and 1919 and is located on the avenida de Cervantes. Noteworthy things to see at the Malaga Town Hall include the Lounge of the Mirrors decorated with paintings by Jaraba and Murillo Careers as well as the Lounge of Plenary sessions <br></strong><a href="http://www.absoluteaxarquia.com/maps/images/mw_20.jpg"><strong><br></strong></a><br></div><div>      <strong><em>Palace de la Aduana (The Customs)<br></em></strong><br></div><div><strong>It was built in 1826 on land reclaimed from the sea. Designed by Manuel Martín Rodríguez in the neoclassical style, the influences of Renaissance palaces make it almost classical baroque.<br> It is a square building with a striking façade of bossage in the lower part. It has a white stone fascia and vertical lines in the same stone to join the façades. Its windows are regular where the ones at the centre and ends have gables and there is a ceremonial balcony on the façade facing the Parque de Málaga (Málaga Park).<br> Here we find a large number of towering palm trees that give the building a singular view.<br></strong><br></div><div> <strong><em>by Emily  Ailish Doherty &amp; Abir Nakouti<br></em></strong><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br><strong>Antonio Banderas</strong></div><div> </div><div>Spanish actor born 10th August 1960.</div><div>He was a soccer player until breaking his foot at the age of 14.</div><div> </div><div>He began his acting career during the 80s with the Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar , although he is also known for his roles in the American industry , where he has focused his career since the early 90s.</div><div> </div><div>He married Melanie Griffith in 1996 and he has one daughter, Stella del Carmen and now he has a new couple.</div><div> </div><div>Famous films played by Antonio Banderas are <strong><em>The Zorro Saga, Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios, Los Reyes del Mambo, Philadelphia</em></strong>, <strong><em>Evita, Entrevista con el vampiro,</em></strong> etc.<br><br><br></div><div><strong>Larios </strong>( Born 15th December 1836-1895) </div><div> </div><div>He was the son of Martin Larios y Herreros y Margarita Larios Martínez de Tejeda. </div><div> </div><div>He developed the sugar and textile industries in Málaga. So he was a crucial figure in the Industrial Revolution.</div><div> </div><div>When his father died in 1873, he became a managing partner of the Society of Sons of Martin Larios.          <description><![CDATA[<div><br><strong>SPORTS</strong></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Málaga has become a favourite tourist destination for practising sports and organising top sporting events.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Whether in sports facilities or in natural outdoor settings, visitors can practice almost any sport in our city.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Golf, swimming, sailing, diving, windsurfing, fishing, canoening, hiking, tennis, paddle tennis, athletics, cycling, archery and horse riding.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><strong>SPORTS EVENTS</strong></div><div><br>Over time, Málaga has become a meeting place for top-level sporting events.The city has hosted the finals of the David Cup, the National Basketball League (ACB) and the National Athletics Championships. The city also organises its own high-level sporting events such as Málaga's city Marathon which takes place in December, the triathlon or the fun run.</div><div><br></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><strong>LEISURE</strong></div><div><strong>&nbsp;</strong></div><div><strong>Málaga at dawn</strong></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Dawn in Málaga is a delightful spectacle that is free to all and with no entry limits. Take to the streets early and walk down to the beach, to the esplanade, from where you can watch how the sea is slowly tinged with gold as it is touched by the first rays of the sun.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><strong>Málaga evenings&nbsp;</strong></div><div>During the evening hours in Málaga the light becomes very special. The hours before sunset is the time to find a good terrace and enjoy a drink (tea, coffe, fruit-juice..) whatever&nbsp; you fancy. You can enjoy these special moments, chatting with friends or simply watching and observing at&nbsp; any of the city´s cafés, tea rooms or cake shops in places such as Plaza de la Merced, Calle Alcazabilla, Calle San Agustín, Plaza de la Constitución and Calle Larios.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><strong>Málaga nights</strong></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Málaga offers a variety of different ways of enjoying the night.          <description><![CDATA[<div><br>La Concepcion Historical-Botanical Gardens were created about 1855 by the Marquis and Marchioness of Loring and  then the owners were the Echevarria-Echevarrieta family. They are home to an exquisite open-air collection of tropical and subtropical flora.  <br><br>We can find over 2000 plant species from Europe, America, Asia, Africa and Oceania are all on show  recognised as an Item of Cultural Interest.  </div><div>  </div><div>Some of the species we’ll find there are:</div><div> </div><ul><li>Palm trees</li><li>Water-plants</li><li> Primitive plants</li><li>Vines </li><li> Mediterranean flora                      </li><li>Plants-in-Our-Land</li><li> Fruit trees.</li><li>Citrus-fruit-trees. </li><li> Bamboo trees.<br><br></li></ul><div>Besides, there is a diversity of birds in the botanical garden<br> It was officially declared historical-artistic gardens in 1943</div><div><em> </em> </div><div>    <strong> By Eliana Akerman &amp; Xavi Anzani</strong></div>]]></description>
