The Ontario government has announced it will cut funding for child-care centres that are not part of the $10-a-day daycare program. This means many centres will lose access to fee subsidies for families, and staff could face wage reductions. Advocates warn that the cuts could lead to fewer affordable options for parents and put pressure on early childhood educators, ultimately affecting the quality and accessibility of childcare in the province.

The region of Waterloo is adding 411 new modular child care spaces to address significant demand in the community by the end of 2026.
