I realize that there are lots of stories about the struggle of being colored in America, (slave, segregation, etc.) but that does not bring me pure enjoyment. We need stories for people of color that are happy, not depressing. Therefore we should enhance entertainment in America by creating more written and scripted stories meant for people of color. I would also like these stories to be for teenagers since people of color aren’t often shown in their entertainment. I believe we should step away from the one-dimensional character that’s there for an episode. I am more than my skin color, and so is everyone else. Producers, writers, and directors should write stories for people of color that allow them to escape the world’s harsh realities. I believe in showing different races communicating healthily in entertainment we will be encouraged to do that as well.

I feel this way about entertainment in America because I have experienced; not seeing someone like me in entertainment, seeing me but as a slave, or seeing me but the content for adults, not teenagers. Lack of true representation feels like you’ve been cheated out of something you’ve earned and it hurts.
