Hello!

My name is Kayla and the pronouns I go by are She/her. I recently graduated from the SSW program at Sheridan college. My favourite childhood toys would be baby dolls because I always loved to play "house" and also BRATZ dolls because I used to love them. There are many things I would like to learn this semester as I love to further develop my knowledge. I mainly would like to learn more about research and how to conduct different research types, and also I would like to learn more about the different communities around us. I recently graduated from the CYC Program in April and want to further my studies to obtain my degree in Social Community Development and eventually, within the next decade, become a child and youth psychologist; however, I am still debating on that study. I have experience in the Community milieu when I was completing my practicum at The Boys and Girls Club of Peel and the Youth Justice milieu when I was placed in The Salvation Army's Correctional Facility Cuthbert House, which is also a Residential home. Finally, I have experience in the educational milieu when I was volunteering at my local elementary school. What I truly want to learn in this program is how psychology and sociology correlate with each other, the effects it has within each of our communities and how these disciplines play a role in this field of work.

Hi Everyone!
My name is Lucia Vitaro, I also go by Lucy. My pronouns are she/her. I'm a recent SSW graduate who is excited to continue a journey of learning here at Sheridan. I had many beloved childhood toys growing up. If I had to pick, BRATZ dolls were a particular favourite of mine, mostly because of their incredible style (especially Jade)! Another toy I liked was this green lightsaber from Star Wars that my oldest brother gave me, he had a lot of influence on many of my interests as a kid. I think what I'm most interested in learning about in this course is the topics of community (and a loss of it) but I'm also interested in the photovoice assignment as I've never had an assignment like it before.

Hi my name is Mellissa Adoma. My favourite toy from childhood would’ve been a Barbie doll but I was born in Ghana West Africa and my mom felt toys were underrated and books were more of “it “, so didn’t get much of any toys, lol. I am currently a CYCW and an early learning facilitator, working with YMCA. Working with kids is one of the highlights of my life considering I have 3 of my own and I want to be an early childhood educator in the nearest future. Hi all! My name is Jenn Annis, and my pronouns are she/her. I graduated from the SSW program in June 2024 and am taking the BSCD program to increase my social and community development knowledge. I work in the field as an Addiction Crisis Worker at the William Osler Withdrawal Management Centre. I am incredibly passionate about working with individuals with mental health and addiction concerns. This semester, I would like to learn in-depth about the theories that influence community development. I can't pick just one favourite toy because my childhood interests constantly shifted, and I always had difficulty picking favourites. Some of my interests included console video games (Sly Cooper, various Mario games, Halo, Pokémon, and more), online community games on the internet (such as Neopets and Whyville), playing card games like Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokémon, Barbie dolls, Beyblades, and Crazy Bones. If you're a '90s kid, you'll probably remember some of those!
