What is your hometown like?

My hometown is Varginha. It is a bustling mid-sized city in southern Minas Gerais, Brazil, with about 136,000 residents. The city is world-famous for the so-called “ET Incident of Varginha” (January 1996), giving it a unique identity in tourism and popular culture. It also has a strong economy, being a major center for coffee production and exports, which supports urban growth and infrastructure. However, as in many growing cities, some parts still face challenges—there is demand for continued urban planning and improvement of services as the city evolves.

No — I was born and live in Varginha. It’s the same place. I know it well: with its unique identity (the ET Incident), its strategic location in southern Minas Gerais, and a strong sense of community among the “varginhenses”. It means I’m both from here and live here every day.

Hi guys! Today, I want to show you one of the most curious and unique tourist spots in Minas Gerais: the ET Museum in Varginha!

This museum was created to preserve and share the story of the famous 1996 UFO incident, when several people claimed to have seen unidentified flying objects and even extraterrestrial beings in the city.

The museum has documents, newspaper articles, videos, and replicas that tell the story of what became known as the "Varginha ET".
It’s not only a cool place for those interested in UFOs, but also an important part of the local culture and identity.

I chose this place because it combines mystery, history, and fun! Visiting the museum was an unforgettable experience — and made me see how rich and diverse our state’s tourism can be.

I hope you enjoyed my oral tour guide. See you soon!
