         <description><![CDATA[<div>"I have never done a stroke of work in my life." - Tony Sarg.  Tony Sarg loved the work that he did so much that it never felt like work to him!  He was an innovator, artist, puppeteer, and marionette man.  However, Sarg's biggest achievement was helping to create the first floats and balloons for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in 1924.  Tony Sarg's dedication and creativity is truly an inspiration for us all.  </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Tony Sarg was born on April 20, 1880.  His full name is Anthony Frederick Sarg.  Although he was born in Guatemala, he was of German and English descent.  Sarg's father's name was Francis Charles Sarg and his mother's name was Mary Elizabeth Parker.  Tony Sarg did not have any brothers or sisters.  Sarg's grandparents were a big inspiration on him when he was a child.  His grandfather taught him about woodcarving and his grandmother was a painter.  When Sarg's grandmother died she left him her collection of puppets, marionettes, and miniature houses.  Sarg was a very creative and innovative child that was always inventing things.  </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Sarg only went to school for a short time.&nbsp; When he was 14 he joined a military academy.&nbsp; In 1905 he moved to the United Kingdom.&nbsp; There he met an American tourist named Bertha Eleanor&nbsp; McGowan.&nbsp; They got married in 1909 and in 1920 Sarg and his family moved to New York City. &nbsp;He started creating animated movies and he also published several children's books. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Tony Sarg was most famous for his work in creating the first floats for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.  The first Macy's Parade was held in 1924.  Macy's asked Sarg if he could create something special for the parade.  Sarg worked on designing and creating large floats that were first filled with oxygen and handled by several puppeteers.  In 1928 the balloons were filled with helium and floated high in the sky!  People were amazed by the magical floats!&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Tony Sarg is an innovative and creative person because he devoted his life to making art and creating inventions.  He was an amazing designer because he was able to design, build, and paint the huge floats in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.  It took a lot of creativity and determination to keep working on this project until he was able to get it right and have the balloons float.  </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Tony Sarg passed away on February 17, 1942 in New York City after having surgery on his appendix.&nbsp; Tony Sarg made a difference in the world by creating so many puppets, animations, and children's books for children to enjoy and cherish.&nbsp; His engineering on the floats for the Macy's Parade is a time-honored tradition that the people of New York City still enjoy to this day.  </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I would definitely like to be like Tony Sarg.  Tony Sarg felt like he never worked a day in his life because he was always spending his time doing what he loved to do.  I hope to do that every day too.  I would also like to be as innovative and creative as Tony Sarg is.  He has influenced my life by bringing joy to myself and many others every year on Thanksgiving!</div>]]></description>
