Korean Credit System vs. New Zealand’s NCEA — Student Life, Grading Challenges, and What Needs to Change

Korea’s new high school credit system (고교학점제) is causing confusion and debate among students and educators. Interestingly, this system was inspired by New Zealand’s NCEA, often seen as a model of advanced education.

Through a student-produced vlog and mini-documentary, we will compare the two systems directly by exploring real student life in both countries:

Daily school life under each system

Key differences in grading and evaluation (e.g., NCEA’s 4-level grading, which many say is subjective and sometimes unfair)

How these differences affect students’ motivation and stress

What Korea can learn and improve from New Zealand’s system

By investigating from both Korea and New Zealand, this project aims to help students understand educational reform more clearly and spark constructive discussions on what a fair and effective system should look like.
