While im giving feedback , I try to make sure students really think about it and use it to improve their work.

After reading a student’s work, I mark three key points and write a reflective question next to each one.

For example, in this Spanish writing taske aimed at ks3 (7,8) if a student writes (depends on what they write)
"Mi madre es muy amable y trabajador,"
I might ask:

1. How could you improve the agreement of your adjectives? (checking for f/m)

2. Can you add more details about your family members’ personalities?

3. Can you give another example of a reflexive verb?

These questions help the student reflect on the grammar they have used, and add more details.

3 numbers different colours next to the different segments that I want to provide feedback for, then at the bottom I colour match the questions to the number. I will give personalised feedback before the questions (boosting their confidence and what went well) then go into the 3 questions.

Los estudiantes, en grupos de 2, deben elegir qué texto tiene más calidad y qué texto tiene menos calidad. Los estudiantes utilizan los rectángulos verde y amarillo como guía para argumentar su elección (variedad de vocabulario, connectores, detalles, opiniones).

Esta discusión es efectiva, porque, en la siguiente actividad, los estudiantes deberán crear su propio texto, siguiendo estas características. Así, los estudiantes son conscientes de las expectativas sobre un buen texto.

Entrego a los alumnos tres textos breves anonimizados en inglés de alumnos anteriores que respondieron a la pregunta: '¿Cómo crees que es la vida en España?'. Cada respuesta incluye una mezcla de estereotipos y aciertos. Por ejemplo:

'En España la gente come paella todos los días y se echa la siesta después de comer'

'En España, mucha gente disfruta de largas comidas con la familia, especialmente los fines de semana'

'Los españoles siempre llegan tarde y salen de fiesta todas las noches'.

Los alumnos trabajan en parejas para identificar qué ideas son estereotipos y cuáles son más realistas. A continuación, discutimos qué textos son más reflexivos o están mejor estructurados, y hablamos de cómo utilizan oraciones claras, conectoress y conocimientos culturales. Luego, en clase, proponemos algunos criterios de éxito para un párrafo cultural sólido, como tener un argumento equilibrado, utilizar vocabulario específico y tener opiniones bien justificadas.

Feedback:

'Buen trabajo en reconocer las frases que son estereotipos. Fantástico esfuerzo! ahora traten de añadir su opinión sobre cada frase! :)''

Creo que esta actividad es genial porque los estudiantes aprenden a cuestionar las suposiciones que se tienen sobre España y y deconstruir estos estos estereotipos. Al mismo tiempo desarrollan sus habilidades de redacción en un contexto cultural.
