Japan

1. Name: Suebin Lee

2. Topic: Why did Japan’s income(GDP per capita) rapidly increase starting from 1975?

3. Description: The three key factors of the Japan's "bubble economy" are a rapid rise in asset prices, the overheating of economic activity, and a sizable increase in money supply and credit.

The start of this change was as the dollar became cheaper just as Japan was reaching the height of its economic prowess in manufacturing. The bank that had ample fund started to freely lend to Japanese firms and individuals, who purchased real estate, which increased the paper value of land assets. This created a vicious cycle in which land was used as collateral to obtain further loans, which were then used to speculate on the stock market or to purchase more land. However, the bubble economy popped as the businesses went bankrupt and the value of lands plunging.

In this period of time, the quality of Japan products have increased which in turn, threatened the US economy and businesses.

4. Factors in change(group discussion)

A new leader (Brazil): Murder rates in Brazil started to increase as more routes in drug trades were discovered. As the more were found, the more gangs were trying to fight against each other to get the best trading route they can find. Many people in Brazil had concerns about this and they felt as if the current leader wasn’t meeting their standards when it came to their concerns. As the time for electing a new president came, many voters were trying to look out for those who tried to minimize the murder rates. Far-right candidate Jair Bolsonaro, who’s leading in the polls, wants to bolster police forces, but also to relax gun-control laws.

Improved healthcare (India, Germany)

Germany) Due to Germany’s poor economic status, many people (especially infants) have died due to poor sanitary foods and the living style. However, the development of the country helped to improve the quality of healthcare, helping people to decrease deaths from diseases and increase life expectancy.

India) Although the fertility rates have gone down in India, the population is still rising at increasing rates. The rules, regulations, and policies have made precautions about fertility to slow the rate of population, but the development of healthcare and medicine has decreased death rates and increased the population.

Investment and the value of money(Japan Economy): The Japan economy started to flourish as the value of dollar dropped and Japanese were able to do a lot of investment in the land since the bank got affluent.

1. Sola Mangisi

2. Why did Brazil have a dramatic increase in murder rates since 1990?

3. Rio Grande do Norte has the title of the country’s highest murder rate - 68 per 100,000 people. Over the past decade, the murder rate in that state increased by 250%. The increase in murder rates was caused by the lucrative drug trades. There are always fights occurring over the control of different routes for the cocaine transports. Due to an increase in the drug trade, many people start to get involved - this led to an increase in the prison population. In 2018 alone there were 60,000 murders and nearly double the number of people were killed in the drug cartel war in Mexico that same year. Cars are usually stolen so different gangs can finance the purchase of cocaine and weapons which then they use against/for the other people they trade with. Experts also blame the poorly applied gun laws and reduction of police resources.

4.

1. Rina Kitazawa

2. Why did Germany have a dramatic improvement in life expectancy after 1945?

3. The sudden improvement in life expectancy of people in Germany was caused by the advancement in health care. Due to their poor economic status, cities such as Bavaria suffered from poor environment and sanitary conditions.
Since waters were contaminated, due to poor environmental conditions, Bavarian mothers fed their infants only flour and water porridge. This caused many infants to become sick, and die before they reach the first birthday.
Luckliy, Germany was able to develop better healthcare as well as their economical status helping many people to have a longer life expectancy.
