<title>Tip: when conducting a classroom observation, remember to be a good audience member. Smile, reassure the teacher if they make a mistake and look at you etc. Do everything you can to make them feel relaxed and supported. </title>

<title>Most important tip: this process is about trust. If one teacher catches wind of something negative that you observed and have said to others, it will poison the entire well. You can certainly spread positive stories, but any negatives need to remain strictly between the coach and the coachee - not even the HOD/DP/Principal should be told anything negative. If any of these people ask, simply tell them coaching is confidential.</title>

<title>Tip: the best phase to use about coaching is that it is &quot;Supportive, not judgemental.&quot; It&#39;s about helping spread good practice.</title>

<title>Tip: when giving SWOT feedback, aim for a minimum of 20 strengths&amp;nbsp;a maximum of three weaknesses. The more you build them up, the more open they are to hearing about things they can work on.</title>

<title>Tip: the most important currency for any teacher is time. So, if you know your feedback won&#39;t last more than 30 minutes, let them know up front that you won&#39;t keep them for 70 minutes, but you will get it done in 30. They will appreciate this and then be more positive about the process.</title>

<title>Tip: think about things you can do to make the experience positive. When you have a good meal at a restaurant, you link positive thoughts to that experience. So, a prize box, lots of praise, offers of help are just some things you can do to make them think positively about the process. The more they do, the more likely they will be to sell coaching&amp;nbsp;to other staff.</title>

<title>Tip: sometimes you will get a person who, when you offer a few&amp;nbsp;tips, they say they, &quot;I already know that.&quot; A trick here is to change your delivery, and instead say, &quot; What do you know about cubing?&quot; You&#39;ll find they will suddenly not know this tip, and you can proceed to build their knowledge base. </title>

<title>Tip: when doing a debrief, always sit next to the person. This reduces the oppositional nature of the meeting, and makes it more cooperative. </title>
