Miller and Urey were looking into the origin of life. They did an experiment. The experiment consisted of a number of tubes and bottles containing water to mimic the sea, water vapour which acted like cloud formations and common electrical currents that mimic lightening storms that were common at that time. They filled these tubes with gases that they believed existed in the early Earth. Over tome Miller discovered that 10-15% of the matter had turned organic and began to grow. This found out how life began on Earth.
