However, this theory has not be consistently validated by research and has otherwise been discarded by the psychiatric community.

Usually when people go to seek help for a psychological disorder, most practitioners present the medical model, encouraging clients take daily medications. However, is this the only way you can cope with mental disorders? There are many barriers that people face when trying to seek out mental health support. If you do not feel comfortable taking medications or dealing with stigma from reaching out, there are alternatives out there for you! Try the sociocultural perspective and try to connect with your family, friends, or other individuals who share your experience.

Is medication the only way to manage symptoms of psychosis? perhaps symptoms of mental disorders that involve psychosis can be managed based upon the specific needs of the individual. For instance, for an individual who is highly affected by sociocultural factors may benefit from a humanistic intervention. In contrast, an individual who is known to have genetic predispositions to psychosis may benefit from medication.
