During my conversations with the student, she has stated that she enjoys reading chapter books and series books, particularly a book series entitled The Dork Diaries written and illustrated by Rachel Renée Russell. She has also stated that her hobbies include playing basketball, playing outside, and really likes animals. I have based my book recommendations for the student on her interests in this book series as well as on her other interests. Going along with the theme of book series about growing up, the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series chronicles adolescent experiences that are relatable.

This book is also great for the focus student as she has expressed an interest in animals, particularly birds. The book includes interesting owl facts as well, which is something that I am sure the focus student will enjoy.
