In the poem ‘Disabled’ the persona is desperate since he has no legs and he needs to be taken care of. He is desperate physically. However, in the poem ‘Dulce et Decorum est’ the persona feels the desperation mentally. The fact that he can’t do anything about his friends suffering makes him feel weak. He has nothing to do, he can’t save or heal them, he is desperate. His emotions is reflected with the lines ‘In all my dreams...drowning’ in the poem.

Terrifies them. “He’s lost his color very far from here” war drained all color from him, he has no energy and he has no life.
Point two: Point of view “As under a green sea, I saw him drawning” the sight in front of the soldier harrifies him. “Now he will spend a few sick years in institutes” more neutral, from a war veteran.
Point three: Language Techniques “He plunges at me guttering, choking, drowning” emotive words and more vivid imagery and list of three. “And half his life time lapsed in the hot race” various use of irony and symbolism. Also imagery and emotive words and phrases.

In Disabled the poet depicts an image of a war veteran who sits in a wheeled chair after the war. To illustrate the first stanza accentuates the fact that the desperate and hopeless situation of the war veteran. He is helpless because he’s lost his limps in the war. However, in the poem ‘Dulce et Decorum est’ the poet expresses his thoughts about the war by depicting the horrific image of the soldiers who suffer during the war, unlike ‘Disabled’. As an illustration the line “Gas! Gas! Quick boys...” highlights the fact that soldiers are in a desperate and terrific situation

Point1: Both of the poems Disabled and Dulce et Decorum Est are written from 1st person perpective. This enables the reader to empatize with the persona as they see from the eyes of the soldiers. Also when they talk about past events, they refer to themselves using the word “he” which highlihts the fact that those problems that are mentioned in those poems arenot the problems of one person but the whole society of soldiers.
Point2: Both of these poems suggest that war does more harm to both earth and people than good. The Poet shows how war killed a person and disabled another one in order to emphasize this.
Point3: In both poems the poet refers to colors in different ways. In the poem Dulce et Decorum Est the poet describes the toxic gas using the colors ”lime” and “green”, the use of descriptive language is in line with the reference to colors in the quotation “Poured it down shellholes” in the poem Disabled while explaining why the persona has no colors. This idea of the war geting the color of someone overlaps with the refer to colors in the poem Dulce et Decorum Est.

The poem ‘Dulce Et Decorum Est’ is like a background story of the soldiers while the poem ‘Disabled’ is the consequence of the events happened in those background stories. The background stories describe the eye-watering reasons for the mutilation and deaths of the soldiers, for instance in ‘Dulce Et Decorum Est’ the poet explains the reason for the anguished death of one of the comrades of the persona. On the other hand, The poem ‘Disabled’ focuses on the heart-rending consequences of those events.

Bolaçin-Ece-Selin part 3 In both poems "Disabled" and "Dulce et Decorum est" the war poet criticizes the uneccesatiy of the war. Hence, the analogy of purple blood in Disabled accentuates the vicious stupidity of the war. Also in Dulce et Decorum Est in the line "The old Lie" the word "lie" encourages the reader to see that to die for your country and the battlefield as a huge wasteland.
