The goal of the reform movement was to speak out against slavery. Both blacks and whites were speaking out to end Southern slavery. Many people got their word out by publishing newspapers. William Lloyd Garrison is an example, who published the anti-slavery newspaper called The Liberator. Another abolitionist who did the same was Fredrick Douglass who was an escaped slave and he wrote the North Star. 
However, not all abolitionists did this and some did even more severe things. Harriet Tubman risked prison and death to help slaves escape in the South. She conducted the Underground Railroad which led slaves from the South to the North. Mott and Stanton were both in presence at the World Antislavery Convention, but they weren't allowed to express their own views about slavery because of their gender. Also, women were denied the right to vote  and had little to no rights. 
 Mott and Stanton decided to hold the Seneca Falls Convention, which was a women's rights convention. Many people attended and they expressed how they wanted equality in everyday life. Progress was slowly made and women slowly gained rights.
