Good day.

As English students it is our personal responsibility to keep ourselves informed and updated with our surroundings, where It be through reading or current available technology.

Along side the Covid 19 pandemic, we have come to learn that there is a movement, a global pandemic of “Black lives matter” There is a larger context and history of African American men and boys who were killed at the hands of the police and on the other hand in South Africa women of all age is being targeted.

Students need to analyze the controversy around this topic and that of other people using the term “All lives matter” instead of or in addition to “Black lives matter.”

Students need reflect on their perspective of Black Lives Matter and write a short passage to which they reflects their new knowledge and point of view.

-Lethu Halam

Firstly the slogan "black lives matter" would not have existed if there was a fair treatment amongst races and the infamous white privilege is a contribution to this matter. The slogan is a drive from rebellious black people who are tired of being treated as if they not human,
As if they don't have rights because humanity instantly bounds you to your rights and no right is superior above the other but in society it's the other way around. Also the slogan only enhances the lives of the black people because they are the who I can say "endangered species" to police of America. Another thing i want to add is that when there are endangered species we as people of all races gather to support the specie and not thrown own slogan that "all lives matter" of which of course they do with no questions asked. Let me take you to a real life case scenario there was a time Rhino poaching in South Africa was making headlines but did we bring in that Lion's are being hunted and killed for their skin ? No because at that time we were only focusing on the endangered specie which was the Rhino. This is same scenario as happening to black lives matter campaign. We focusing on the race because of the brutality that they have endured in the previous years which seem history to be repeating itself in the present. We as people should never see this as a division of races more as races supporting each other in the matter because it's the people who see themselves as superior they see division to add All lives matter.

Also coming to the increasing rates of GBV is very disturbing for every girl living in South Africa because you might never know when it will happen to you. They first said it's the garments we wear that provokes them to rape us women but then stats changed when they started to rape grandmother and infants. How are they going to justify that ? Is it still the clothing we were or the real problem is the perpetrators that commit such a deed ? Neither! It's the justice system that fails us everytime we want justice for the lives we lost.
We women of South Africa should live in fear of always looking over your shoulder when going out.
