(may 1998)</li><li>Neighbor called police, was fearful and moved away</li><li>KKK held a cross burning at rally on their own private property (August 1998)<ul><li>The cross was visible to nearby homes and state highway</li><li>Black the KKK clans member was arrested for intimidation with burning the cross, and found guilty by jury.</li></ul></li></ul><div>Court ruled in favor of being able to burn a cross is protected speech.</div><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>Does the section of federal law that requires the federal government to refuse to register &quot;disparaging&quot; trademarks violate the first amendment guarantee of free speech?</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<ul><li>A band is trying to get the trademark name of "The Slants" and the USPTO does not want to give them a trademark.&nbsp;</li><li>The reason they don't want it give the trademark is because it disparages the Asian Americans.</li><li>Simon Tam thinks that the law that requires the USPTO to refuse his trademark is unconstitutional.</li><li>The federal government appealed the case to the U.S. Supreme Court agreed to hear the case.&nbsp;</li><li>The Supreme Court ruled in favor of the band and allowed them to get the trademark. They said since it is just offensive that does not mean the government can stop them from using it.</li></ul>]]></description>
