How can we fix this problem?

There are many different ways to fix the problem of water pollution, this includes:
-Don't wash or work on your car at home. Doing this can cause chemicals and other oils to pollute underground water sources. Underground rivers are heavily polluted in larger neighborhoods because of this.
- Recycle harsh materials like batteries and paint. These materials are some of the largest contributes to runoff pollution from landfills and other areas. Sadly most people don't know or don't care so they simply let these harsh materials continue to hurt our oceans and marine life.
- Keep a fat jar instead of putting oils down the drain. When oils are disposed down the drain of a sink, in encourages bacteria buildup in water supply. You can simply fill up the jar and throw it out with your solids when your done with it.
http://all-about-water-filters.com/how-to-solve-water-pollution-problems/

There are many different types of ocean pollution, each effects our way of living in some way or another.
Runoff is one of the more well known ways oceans and lakes are polluted. This type of pollution is also known as non-point source pollution which was touched on in the previous note. "What is the biggest source of pollution in oceans and lakes."
Intentional Discharge is another way oceans and lakes become polluted. Toxic waste from manufacturing plants find their way into oceans and other waterways, which is then consumed by animals around that area and they are then consumed by humans. Plastic discharge is also a major problem when it comes to water pollution. Scientists have calculated that 100,000,000 metric tons of plastic waste are in the oceans. This puts marine life and other forms of life in danger.
Sadly, this is only scraping the surface of the types of pollution that enter our atmosphere and oceans. Some other types include Atmospheric Pollution, Oil Spills, and Deep Sea Mining.
https://blog.arcadiapower.com/causes-effects-of-ocean-pollution/

80 percent of ocean pollution comes from land, and one of the biggest sources is something called non-point source pollution. Non-point source pollution most often occurs as a result of runoff, and includes many small sources such as septic tanks, cars, and boats. It can also come from larger sources as well, such as farms, and ranches. Millions of motor vehicles drop amounts of oil on roads and parking lots, which then makes it's way to the sea.

Some sources of water pollution can start as air pollution, which then makes it's way down and settles into oceans and lakes around that area. This pollution can make many different lakes and beaches unsafe for humans and animals. In some cases, pollution is so bad, it has caused beaches to close

https://oceanservice.noaa.gov/facts/pollution.html

Ocean and lake pollution occurs when harmful substances and/or chemicals are dumped into public waterways. This makes many of those areas toxic to both humans and animals. This shows that humans are modifying the oceans and lakes around us.
https://www.nrdc.org/stories/water-pollution-everything-you-need-know#whatis
