I am the first son of two families, Huerta and Morales. I am the grandson of two Mexican immigrants and two Mexican-American citizens. A son to two Mexican-American parents who had been separated before I was born. A brother to four siblings, two from each side of my family.  

I am a wanderer in this life, confused of who I am and where I belong. I was once lost in what I wanted to do with my life, but now I have found it, but now I am lost in understanding what I am, and that is what I am hoping to find out by taking this class, to better understand what I am. 

The career that I am aspiring for is in technology, more specifically in cyber-security. I pursuing a career that will allow me to help protect people in the digital world, a world that is evolving constantly, a world that I enjoy learning about.

I am a representation that anything is possible with consistency and mental toughness. Never do I enjoy doing what I do, but I am always looking for long-run benefits not short-term.

Others describe me as tranquil as a pond, sweet as honey. But deep down inside there is a fire running for more to strive for. Never am I satisfied, to continue pushing is the only option, with failure comes lessons, unfortunately that is all to say.

I believe it is okay to experience new things and look at them from different perspectives even although you may not utterly agree. But never be one sided, always be ready to intake new information. Life can either be a dead end, or life can be a highway.

People often mistake my kindness for weakness.  I’m a very good judge of character, so I can sense when someone is trying to take advantage of me.

I’ve continued to break through the invisible wall of mental strength that has protected me from hurt, and pain.  This has been my obstacle throughout my life, and I can  and has now been more empathetic, and process my emotions which wasn’t the case throughout my life.

My brown eyes have seen many losses of close loved ones, overcoming financial and family struggles, conquering my own personal and emotional traumas, accomplishing dreams and goals, and finally being at peace with my old soul.

A strong warrior in armor on the outside, but once you remove that layer underneath, that warrior is a woman who is very sensitive, kind, caring, and nurturing. My sense of humor makes all who know me laugh and smile. A heart that shines like the luminous moon in the darkness,full of warmth and love. A lover of art, culture, music, animals and nature all around the world.

I am a servant of God as he is the only being who knows me more than I know myself. I was raised a Catholic and I will die as one. He knows what is best for me and while he meets me halfway, he will never leave my side like others have done in the past. The beach is my escape from reality and my sanctuary place. When my feet touch the soft sand, I feel a sense of relief flow through my body. Seeing the beauty of the blue waters as the waves wash away my stress when it reaches the shore. The sea shells look so beautiful in my hands and the smell of the ocean makes me feel alive and free. I can’t find any other place I would rather be than the beach.

I am a Sanchez who was taught morals, respect, and loyalty. Never judge those without knowing the person first. A motto from my grandfather “You are no better than them and they are no better than you.” And like a wolf pack, it was these teachings of my ancestors that helped me learn to stand tall, always have my head up and let no one put me down for who I am or where I come from.

 I am named after my grandfather Isabel Jose Rodriguez who brought his wife and 8 children from Puebla, Mexico to Riverside, CA.

I am granddaughter and “hija” of Dolores (Honey) Morales who raised me while my parents were both working to provide for our family. I am everything I am today because of her, she never judged people and always gave everyone the benefit of the doubt. Because of her I am kind, thoughtful, and forgiving. 

 

I am a wife, daughter, granddaughter, niece, cousin, and best friend to my chosen sisters. I am an only child and have created a family of my own that I have extreme loyalty to. I will defend them at all costs.

 

I am in love with nature and enjoy camping, hiking, and backpacking. I love animals and take care of people’s pets for a living. I would rather be at home reading than out and about.

I am very shy and nervous when I meet new people but love talking to random/making new friends with people when I get the chance. I’d rather get to know people in person rather than online.

I love nature and being in my own little world with music. Oldies and early 2000s are my go-to with a bit of every other genre of music. Fall is my favorite season, not too cold not too hot but a little chilly.

I am a nursing major who wants to get my master's. I love camping, traveling to new places, trying new foods, and taking pictures. My favorite part of the day is when I get to see the sunset with different colors in the sky. Disney is like my second home, it’s one of my happy places.

My dad spent half his life in Mexico City and the other half of his life here in the U.S. Being his only child, he gives me the world and more. My mom has been in the U.S. since she was two years old but is from Mexicali. Stronger than anyone I know and is my forever best friend. They have done everything possible to make sure I have a good life. I appreciate everything they do for me.

Knowing that this journey to my master's is going to be difficult. I strive to give back to my parents, to make them proud, and to make myself happy as I accomplish this goal. My family is a big part of the reason why I strive to work harder. My family is my life and do everything with them/for them. 

I am Isabella Gatica, a girl who strives to get her master’s. Doing this for my family, myself, and my future family.

I am the honey badger, a relentless creature who runs over any obstacle in the way to make sure he eats well in life. No matter how many bytes, stings, scratches, scars, or poison that I am bitten with, I will overcome it all to get where I want to be in life. I am a hooper. I love the sport of basketball, it has been there for me all the time. Even if there are days when the sport is not kind to me, I will forever love it. I will fight for what I love, and love for what I fight. 

I seek for peace like the ocean waves. Although I feel I am in a great place, I have not yet found my peace. I am still on many journeys like the waves. And I will not stop, until I have reached my destination. 

I am the daughter of two hardworking immigrants from Guanajuato Mexico and my biggest goal is to make them proud.

I am a proud daughter to my mother and father and a sister to three older brothers. My family is the most valuable thing I have. They encourage and motivate me everyday to be the best I can be. 

I am as busy as a bee. I go to school full time and play tennis. My hobbies include embroidery and baking. I go on scuba dives when I can in my free time. I’ve taken up archery which I find a great stress reliever.

I am at peace in nature. Nothing brings me more joy than being outside and seeing pretty flowers and butterflies flying around. I’ll go anywhere from mountains to lakes to beaches.

Throughout my life I have always feared that I could not measure up to those who are more successful and talented. But I realize now my successions whether big or small will be enough.

But overthinking typically does more harm than good since I can never truly make a decision I can feel confident about.

 I find that life is like a rollercoaster, it has it’s both ups and downs but eventually you get to the end. This is something that I've really come to terms with especially being in college because nothing has gone the way I thought.

Although my life is like one big reality show I find that in order to evolve as a person one must face many challenges. In a reality show, you have people who appear for some episodes, and some who leave and never come back. In life, we will lose some people in our lives in order to gain people in our lives and although it is hard to accept it changes us for the better.

It isn’t up to me to say.

Thereby I can’t say what I am or am not.

What or who am I?

Who am I?

That’s the existential question almost all mankind spends their lives asking

It haunts many like the everlasting, lingering fear of death and damnation that vexes almost all life

But, shouldn’t we be asking ourselves a different question?

Perhaps instead of trying to figure out “who we are”

We should try to figure out “who we aren’t”

See psychology dictates that we derive ourselves;

Our identity, 

Our person,

Our entire character,

From the world around us, both natural and man-made

As such, we are more of a combined product of others, than truly ourselves

We cannot truly decide who we are, but we can decide who we aren’t

So I choose to ask, “Who aren’t I?”

And, perhaps,

I love sports.

The Lakers and Broncos are my favorite teams.

Who am I exactly?

I am an achiever and believer. I don’t let any struggle bring me down. I try to accomplish goals that will benefit my family and I. Despite the hardships my family and I have faced like  financial instability,  discrimination, and food shortages it did not stop us from giving up on the pursuit of the life we desire. I am breaking through barriers everyday.  

I want to be a caring mother in the future. I want to have kids of my own that I can love endlessly. My parents were always working so I was raised by my older sisters. I do not blame my parents for not being physically present as I grew up. They always picked up extra shifts in order to put food on the table and a roof over my head. As I have grown older they have been able to be there for me more as I am able to help pay bills and help them financially. I want to inspire my children and future generations with my story. 

I am a first generation college student. I push myself to be better everyday. I always seek for improvement. I work towards breaking generational chains of addiction, depression, anxiety, and trauma. I bring awareness to the importance of mental health since it has had a huge impact on me. I try my best to not let my mental health interfere with the way I view life and how I treat others around me.

I am a Latina, struggling to identify with who I am supposed to be. I am a grandchild of Salvadoran immigrants and told of my Mexican and Native American Roots. I am proud of my heritage and only hope to learn more about my roots aside from being a product of American melting pot. 

I am the glue of my family, the peacemaker that takes care of them and makes sure everyone gets along. I’m “the sensitive one”, unafraid to show emotion and tell others about them. I’m the “selfish one” for setting boundaries when they are needed. I’m the personal therapist, listening to their problems and giving advice when necessary.

I was born in Glendora, CA. I am Mexican-American, and want to learn more about my roots and understand my culture better. My grandparents immigrated to America from Mexico. I am fortunate they made that choice.

I am 20 years old and I turn 21 in November. I really enjoy my birthdays with my family, however this birthday will be by myself since they all moved to another state. So i think it will be somewhat sad but i’ll see if i can make any plans with friends. 

I am the youngest of 4 and I am the only male in my family. Two of my sisters work as a Software engineer and they’ve been very helpful in in helping me figure out my own career.

Being a first generation college student isn’t always the easiest but it is so worth it. It is worth everything the people closest to me have sacrificed so I can be here today. The feeling of having the chance to receive a higher education and have the full support of your parents is a feeling I’d wish everyone could experience. I will make my parents so proud that the Earth will be too small to contain all their happiness. 

 I am Mexican - American but I also believe I am hispanic and latina. Regardless of where Spanish originates from, it is the language my countries have spoken for years and I love the language. A language isn’t at fault for the tragedies that came with it when it was introduced. Knowing Spanish means you're able to translate for an elderly Mexican woman at the DMV and feel so proud after. Knowing Spanish and being able to make a Spanish speaking restaurant worker’s day easier and noticing how comfortable they feel to serve you is an amazing feeling. 

I am a daughter of two hard working immigrant parents. A daughter of a Salvadoran woman and a Mexican man and a witness of their struggles so I could live the “American Dream”. Within me living this dream, I've watched them put their dreams aside to help me accomplish mine. 

What is the “American Dream”? It means I get to have clean, brand new clothes every school year. Food on the table or fridge whenever I feel hungry, snacks to choose from, and the privilege of being a picky eater. It is the luxury of having both of my parents with me, everyday, and spending quality time together due to their jobs that pay them much more than what they would earn back in their own countries. It is having the equal opportunity to be the most successful and ambitious American I can be.

My major is Political Science. I will go to law school and become an immigration lawyer and some day the governor of the state I grew up in. I will change the lives of all the struggling immigrants I can and allow them to also live the “American Dream”.  I will not be a corrupt politician but instead remember my roots and stand with my people.

I am a second generation college student and a first generation American. My family grew up in different parts of Mexico from Culiacán and Tijuana. Something 

I enjoy playing and listening to music. I can play the guitar, trumpet, and a little bit of piano. Though I mostly play only the acoustic and electric guitar nowadays. But when I am not playing, I enjoy listening to songs since they have messages in them or tell stories of people from a long time ago.

I am a Pilot. My Great GrandFather, Grandpa and my Dad are pilots. I will become the 4th Generation to become a pilot. I have passed my ground school and the FAA exam, now I just need the training and the hours to get my private pilot license. I want to fly because in a way I am like a bird, I could go anywhere they want and I enjoy that aspect of flying.

I am a medical worker. I help people with finding their way around the hospital and providing people their medical records if they need it. Even though I do not directly work with the patients unlike the nurses and the doctors. I am there to help anyone that comes into the hospital with questions or if they are looking for a certain department there.

I am a history buff. I really enjoy learning about the past and how events occurred that lead to the creation of the present. I enjoy reading, watching, and seeing anything related to history. My favorite topics to learn about are war and politics, since they both occur with each other. I spend most of my time researching and learning as much as I can about history.

I AM a woman in search of my own identity. A Mexican American working towards higher education. A woman that does not follow trends or standards.

Chicana has never been my personality; I am more than a “small Mexican” woman. Roots from both boarders are wired within me. 

The struggles of my ancestors are not forgotten. The blood, sweat, and tears from my parent’s experience crossing the border are engraved in my soul. It is because of them that I get to stand on this land and call myself a citizen of this grand nation. 

Like a ship in the night, I sail through the vast ocean of self-identity. Proud of my heritage and the ability to switch from one tongue to another, mighty and witty.

I AM part of the Nopalese community that proudly smiles as a pricky pear sits high atop a crown.

I AM VERONICA ESPINOZA PEREZ. Being a Chicana does not defy me. I am not a statistic; I am part of the growth in the community that proves how boundaries are broken in the system. Proud of the blood that runs through my veins, I AM A MEXICAN AMERICAN WOMAN.

She is a shining star. My spirit shines through adversity and strife.

I rose with force from humble origins. 

My identity serves as my protection and best friend. 

I'll triumph over the struggle with a diploma in hand, as a tribute to the strength of a meager existence.

My pets bring me joy like nothing else in this world. 

I go to my pets to seek comfort when I am feeling sad. 

If it weren’t for them, I don’t know where I would be. 

I am majoring in Administration of Justice. 

I chose this path because I want to help those who need it the most.

I want to serve and protect the public, especially the Latino community.

I hope to be in law enforcement someday and help those in need. 

I hope to finish strong and make my family proud.

I am a freshman, eager to start on my new journey, yet worried about the thought of being lonely. From a family of four, I came here to learn something more.

I am a bird, ready to spread its wings. Leaving its nest to learn new things. I have come a long way, hopefully this is the place to stay.

Like a child in a candy store, I am excited to my core. Indonesia is where I’m from, fresh off my high school prom.

I like playing basketball, it's a shame I am not tall. Games make up most of my day, there are many that I can play.

I am eighteen this year, there’s not much that I fear. I am quite religious as well, sometimes you'd be able to tell.

I love my family very much; they asked me to keep in touch. I will miss them a lot, California is very hot.

I am an Americanized Mexican-American woman who wants nothing but to dive deeper into her Mexican roots. I do not speak Spanish but I will want to find a way to communicate with those I find a connection to. 

I am the daughter of a wonderful set of hard-working parents. I have brothers that taught me strength, and a sister that taught me knowledge. Grandparents that taught me love and animals, bunnies, dogs, and hamsters that taught me so much more than I ever thought possible!

I am a sensitive soul but don’t let my size fool you. I feel the emotions of others around me as I attempt to put myself in their shoes. Extremely happy or extremely sad, I am passionate in the way I feel. I am ready to explode at any time to defend the things and people I love. 

Ready to burst with strength and resilience like a firecracker on the 4th of July. Petite and always ridiculed by my size yet when I put my mind to it, I strive to succeed in things others may think I cannot achieve. 

I am a creative soul stuck into the black pit of no direction. I used to create. Paint. Draw. Once you grow up, these creative thoughts become a distant memory and priorities shift to thoughts of work, finances and the struggle of life. 

I am stuck in the endless cycle of day to day life but still fighting to create a life that I love and can be comfortable in. Creating a beautiful home and a beautiful sanctuary for myself and my future animals is just one of the goals I have created for myself. I hope to someday finally make my parents proud and to show them that I did not allow the waves of life to completely crash onto me and stop me from my journey.
