Sometimes it's hard to grasp why the answers to the present lie in the past. A simple analogy might be helpful: a leading psychiatrist in the field of sexual abuse once told me that she had, in thirty years of extensive work with pedophiles, never met one who hadn't himself been abused as a child. This doesn't mean that all abused children go on to be abusers, but it is impossible for someone who was not abused to become an abuser. No one is born evil. As Wincott put it, "A baby cannot hate the mother without the mother first hating the baby." As babies, we are innocent sponges, blank slates, with only the most basic needs present: to eat, shit, love, and be loved. But something goes wrong, depending on the circumstances into which we are born, and the house in which we grow up. A tormented, abused child can never take revenge in reality, as she is powerless and defenseless, but she can - and must - harbor vengeful fantasies in her imagination. Rage, like fear, is reactive."

in the text it talked about how that "A baby cannot hate the mother without the mother first hating the baby." In Mary's case it is like mixed feelings with her she still loves her mom at the same time she hates her from how she treats her. Like when she forgot to bring her stuff with her to the group home saying that she was gonna make her some homemade food. But completely changed her mind when she had to leave. But people do just say things out of anger.

Excerpt from "The Silent Patient" relates not only to allegedly but suicidal people they weren't born this way something in there life had a impact on them that significantly change them difference its not good to do what you do either do it being filled with regrets and turning back or just be changed. But its to the point where you wanted to be numb and just feel nothing like Mary feeling nothing is better than feeling every thing. When ted cheated on Mary it opened up the wound she once covered up with the false fantasy of having someone to finally loving her.

This connects to “allegedly” because we have the abuse aspect. Mary was abused basically her whole life by both parents, that’s why some people believed she killed Alyssa. The story the silent Patience has the same concept as it talks about the idea of abuse. No one is born evil, yet depending on how you’re raise, what household you are raised in, you can become the abuser if abused. But if you weren’t abused, there is no intent or real purpose of someone becoming an abuser.

i believe this relates to allegedly in many ways. I think that what they are trying to say in this little excerpt is that they dont just automatically become a killer or pedophile, someone or something made them into this. something has happened to them for them to be this way, and it relates because she maybe did it on purpose but they werent born this way... or like when they killed mary... Mary was also abused and maybe her abuser wasnt born that way, someone could have been abusing the abuser and they felt the need to abuse her .
