Chapter 4 The Americans would not buy the British tea. In 1772 the British had about 18,000 pounds of unsold British tea. So in 1773 the British made a law to pay tax on the British tea. The east India company was selling tea at a price that was lower than the price smuggled in from supply ships. But their was still a tax on the tea that the east India company. The British thought that the american colonists would be happy to drink tea at a smaller price. Instead they got angry because they thought the British was tricking them to pay the tax on the tea. Chapter 5: Samuel Adams thought that if the american colonists payed the tax he thought that the British was telling the american colonists what to do. So he told them that they could stand up and tell what laws were unfair. After the tea party passed on in 1773. Samuel saw that there were 3 ships loaded with tea that was heading for Boston. He knew that if the Americans paid the tax at Boston then it would be like the British had a right to tax them. So Samuel Adams wrote a letter about the tax on tea wasn't fair. He sent the letter to Thomas Hutchinson who was also loyal to king George the third. But the king paid no attention to Samuel. Chapter 6: So Samuel had a plan to stop the Boston tea trade. He would try and force the agents to quit their jobs. Now along the Atlantic ocean the american colonist forced other agents to quit their jobs. Now some of the supply ships full of tea were now headed for England or stored away somewhere. To make things better Samuel wanted some agents to quit in front of a lot of people. If they could do that in the public the american colonists would have more power over the British. Adams put up some posters around the town for people to see the agents quit in public when the crowd showed up the agents never showed up. So the crowd got angry about the agents never showing up. So Samuel spent some weeks telling speeches against the British a lot of the american colonists agreed what Samuel said.

In chapter 4 most tea in America was brought in illegally after 1770. The American colonists were not buying British tea. In 1773, British Parliament passed the Tea Act to save the company. This law made sure that tea could be bought only from merchants chosen by the East India Company. The company could sell tea at a price that was less than the price of tea smuggled into America, but there was still a tax.
A trading company called the British East India Company was losing a lot of money because the American colonists would not buy British tea. In 1772, the company had 18 million pounds of unsold tea.The British thought the American colonists would be happy to drink tea that was cheap and legal. Instead, the Americans were angry. They thought the Tea Act was a sneaky way of making them pay the tea tax. They felt they were being pressured to give in to Parliament. Parliament wanted to force taxation without representation on the colonists. In chapter 5 it said¨Samuel Adams was an American patriot. He thought that by paying taxes, the American colonists were allowing the British to tell them what to do. Adams taught Americans that their opinions were important. He told them that they could take action to change unfair laws.¨ In chapter 6 it said Samuel Adams had a plan for ending the British tea trade in Boston. He wanted to make the British tea agents working in Boston quit their jobs. In other ports along the Atlantic Ocean, American colonists had forced the agents to quit. Tea shipments were returned to England or stored away.Adams wanted the tea agents in Boston to quit in front of a crowd. If the American colonists could force the tea agents to quit in public, it would show the British that the Americans had power over them.Adams put up posters telling people to come watch the agents quit. The agents never came. The crowd was angry that the tea agents did not show up. Adams spent a few weeks making speeches against the British government. Many American colonists agreed with Adams.

https://0-www-rosenlearningcenter-com.sable.jefferson.lib.co.us/article/895/the-boston-tea-party

Parliament made it legal to sell tea at a lower price than the smuggled tea but still with tax. The colonists did not have a great reaction to this. Samuel Adams thought the Colonists were letting the British tell them what to do. He also told them that they could change unrighteous laws. He organized The Sons of Liberty, who are responsible for the Boston Tea Party. After the war he became the governor of Massachusetts in 1793. In 1773 Samuel Adams finds out that three ships loaded with tea and immediately sent a letter to the governor Thomas Hutchinson to warn him of the unrightful taxation that the British were about to force on the colonists. The governor was a tory and ignored him. Thomas Hutchinson served as governor from 1771 to 1774, he was replaced for his inability to contain the colonists. Samuel Adams and other colonists got tea agents to quit there jobs, and tea shipment were returned to England. Samuel made posters to get people to come see the agents quit. The tea agents did no show, the colonists were mad. Samuel then spent the upcoming weeks speaking protests against the British parliament.
