1. Serif
In typography, a serif is a small line attached to the end of a stroke in a letter or symbol.
2. Sans-serif
From the French, the word “sans” means “without”. So, in typography and lettering, sans-serif in when the letter/symbol does not have extending features (or serifs) at the end of strokes.
3. Ligature
Two or more letters combined into one character make a ligature. In typography, some ligatures represent specific sounds or words. Other ligatures are primarily to make type more attractive on the page and, in most cases, a ligature is only available in extended characters sets or special expert sets of fonts.
4. X-Height
Also known as corpus size, x-height is the distance between the baseline and the mean line of lower-case letters in a typeface. In other words, it is the height of the letter x in the font. One of the most important dimensions of a font, x-height is used to define how high lower-case letters are compared to upper-case letters.
5. Cap Height
Cap height is the height of a capital letter above the baseline for a particular typeface. It is, specifically, the height of capital letters that are flat.
6. Bowl
It is the curved part of the character that encloses the circular or curved parts of some letters such as “d, b, o, D, and B”.
7. Ascender
In typography, an asender is the portion of a minuscule letter that extends above the mean line of a font. That is, the part of a lower-case letter that is taller than the font's x-height.
8. Leading
It refers to the distance between the baselines of successive lines. In consumer-oriented word-processing software, this concept is usually referred to as "line spacing".
9. Kerning
It is the process of adjusting the spacing between characters in a proportional font, usually to achieve a visually pleasing result. Kerning adjusts the space between individual letter forms, while letter-spacing adjusts spacing uniformly over a range of characters. In a well-kerned font, the two-dimensional blank spaces between each pair of characters all have a visually similar area.
10. Picas
A typographic unit of measure corresponding to approximately 1⁄6 of an inch, or 1⁄72 of a foot. One pica is further divided into 12 points.
11. Points
In typography, the point is the smallest unit of measure. It is used for measuring font size, leading, and other items on a printed page. The size of the point has varied throughout the history of printing. Since the 18th century, the point's size has varied from 0.18 to 0.4 millimeters. The DTP (desktop publishing point) point is defined as 1⁄72 of an international inch (about 0.353 mm) and, as with earlier American point sizes, is considered to be 1⁄12 of a pica.
12. Em Dash
Em Dash is used to set off parenthetical elements, which are abrupt.

Praxinoscope: an animation device, the successor to the zoetrope. It was invented in France in 1877 by Charles-Émile Reynaud. Like the zoetrope, it used a strip of pictures placed around the inner surface of a spinning cylinder. The praxinoscope improved on the zoetrope by replacing its narrow viewing slits with an inner circle of mirrors, placed so that the reflections of the pictures appeared more or less stationary in position as the wheel turned. Someone looking in the mirrors would therefore see a rapid succession of images producing the illusion of motion, with a brighter and less distorted picture than the zoetrope offered.
