         <description><![CDATA[<div>1. Email, text, social media, communication has changed<br><br>2. Students are interacting with the world through an advanced level of media and technology. Students need more advanced levels of media literacy rather than non-fiction and fiction literacy.&nbsp;<br><br>3. Students are reading to learn at a younger age rather than learning how to read. Students today have personal computers and email. Instead of overhead projectors and blackboards, students and teachers have access to Smartboards and other technology.<br><br>4. The world today is rapidly changing and students are reading more in different forms of technology and media. </div>]]></description>

Daily communication and activities are done via online - ex. emails, online banking, online applications.<br><br>3. Moved from decoding to higher levels of comprehension, like evaluating and synthesizing information from text. Reading instruction came from a basal series and there was minimal student choice.<br><br>4. Life skills - students need to know how to function in an ever-changing society.</div>]]></description>
