I think this quote is good about coming of age because it says becoming serious also means you are becoming dull which I don't think is necessarily true. In episode Girl Meets Sneak Attack Auggie claimed not to like his favorite TV show any more and wanted to give up his favorite stuffed toy Mr. Googly, Topanga and Cory worried he was growing up too quickly. Auggie felt the need to be more mature since he was "dating" Ava, a six-year-old girl who lives in their apartment building. Charlie's coming of age story is different because he has to overcome and deal with the fact that he was sexually abused by his aunt, a gender reversal of the most common incidents of abuse. In The Outsiders all of the boys face challenges that they need to solve and fight through.
