Teaching Literacy to Students with Autism by Rebekah Bourland

This will hopefully be a resource for teaching and including these students in our classrooms. The hope is that the research, book lists, and activities will be found helpful to you all! I decided instead of listing out the activities and the individual books that it would be most helpful to post website links so that all of the information is more accessible.

This article is one of the resources that I found to be most helpful. It opened my eyes to the possibilities of how beneficial it could be to have students with autism in my classroom. Not only would the strategies used to help those students be helpful to any student in the classroom but those students could teach me the teacher so much more than I thought. This article also gives specific suggestions which I found to be really helpful in thinking and planning through literacy instruction.
